Automatic or Stick?

Right now I'm debating whether or not my next Civic should be a stick or automatic.
I have a stick now and love it, but there are times when I wish I had automatic.
I'm 50/50 on city driving and highway driving, so it's down the middle for me.

Any of you guys switch to automatic from stick and regretted it? or not?

I'm assuming it's more expensive to fix automatic if something happens right?

Standard all the way. Don't buy automatic b/c you will regret it later.

I don't think i'd ever own an auto as a daily driver... the closest i'd get would be if i got a ferarri or something and got an electronic gear box with paddle shifting.. it's sorta like automatic because you're not physically shifting the gears..

but that's the closest i'll get to that.. i love shifting gears, and as long as they keep making manual cars, i'll be driving them... u save like 1,300 on the purchase price, and potential cost down the road... and you have way more fun..

it is a bish in traffic tho...

also auto is just so boring, it's not a real driving experience the damn thing drives itself...

auto you'll regret getting and wish you got stick, but i haven't ever met anyone that's hated stick so bad that they wish they had gotten an auto instead...

Sounds like you want a stick. More fun, more control, and keeps you occupied and awake on those late nights when you're dozing off at the wheel.

As for the cheaper thing, it's also easier to change your tranny fluid on a manual--you can even DIY!

Actually I'm torn, but if I WERE leaning to one side, it would be automatic.
I'm just sick of the shifting and all that while in the city.
But, I'm just worried if I do get auto how I'd be regretting not getting ...

I agree with that first statement.

The first time i bought my car was the first time i learned to drive stick. Never learned to drive stick before and never knew anything about it, so it was the car I learned in.

I admit, the first 3 days I had my car I kept saying "damn it I should have stuck with an automatic... I hate stick."

Needless to say, almost 2 months later I'm loving stick and would never go back.

For me, it all depends on the car, and the mood I'm in. If I want the relaxing "trip to FLA" feeling, then it's a big car with auto. If it's a BMW Z4 on Hwy #1 from LA, then stick is the only way to go.

Cheers

When I bought my A4, 5spd wasn't a priority for me. I like this car being automatic because the long drives up north and i'm on the road alot. I got this car for a daily driver and just for luxury and looks. The civic didn't have climit control, heater leather seats, power mirrors/door locks/windows/etc, 4 doors, smooth as hell, etc etc.

When I get my car that i'm going to drive for fun, it'll be stick 100%. I'm pretty sure I will end up getting a R6 or something, so that'll be fun...

I guess i'm trying to say is what do you want the car for ? Fun or daily ?

That's the thing, I think I'd have to change my stance as to where I drive most of the time. Mainly in the suburbs and city - etobicoke/ssauga/oakville.
Sometimes I love it and sometimes it is a ***ch.
Maybe I should do a poll here and see what everyone drives. Now I'm kinda curious.

I've always thought that if it's a medium to large sized 4dr family car (not 4 door civic) then auto is the way I see it, cuz you want smoothness over how fun the car is..... but if it's a 2 door, no matter the size, always stick

Stick, but i do live in a small town so there isn't much stop and go traffic. Or traffic in general, lol. I do see benefits with an auto in heavilly populated areas.
