Post Looking to buy a Civic.....Need a little help

Well, I never owned a honda but i have heard about their outstanding reliability in terms of engine and what not. Now im looking to buy a used one but with in my price range, many are approaching 250,000km. Are Hondas reliable after this pt. or should i just forget about it

It depends on the car itself at that point...ask the seller many questions about maintenance, whether the motor has been rebuilt or replaced, and definately have a mechanic look at the car before you buy. What year car are you looking at??

Those km are high, the civic is reliable, but certainly not indestructable. I have seen civics go 400,000 km before any major engine issue.

BTW, welcome to TCC

I own a 93 Civic DX HB with 290,000km. Motor still runs perfectly and I can still do 140km/h on the highway no problem, but its the body that starts to rust. Honda's are nutorious for rusting in the back wheel wells. So check for that.

Also, cars in that mileage range may need a timing belt/water pump change among other things.

I don't mean to thread jack but I'm also in the market for a Civic (actually 2 of 'em).

And I'm also a newb

Can anyone recommend a good Honda mechanic in the GTA (North York / Richmond Hill / Scarborough) that I can take prospective used Civics to?

Also, anything to be careful about in 1998 - 2001 model years?

Oh yeah, one last thing. Where do I find explanations of what DX / EX / LX etc mean?

Uese this MSN page. It has alot of useful info. It is a US based site, so there are minor differences, but it can still be very helpful.

As for a mechanic, there are a few shops listed on the Affiliates page that TCC deals with.

CX/DX are the base models LX/EX are mid and the Si and SiR are the top models.
