Bought my first car...a civic hatch...advice needed
1992 Civic Si hatch in black with a sunroof, 4-wheel disc brakes, and power locks. 149 000 km's on the engine, emmissions testing done in march 2003, and a mechanic said last wednesday there's nothing wrong he can find with it. The car looks great except for some paint peeling off the rear bumper and paint faded off the roof (about $150 paint job).
The engine bay looks beautiful, the engine purrs like a kitten and no rust...ANYWHERE!!!
Is this too good to be true (I already bought it I just godda put insurance on it and go and pick up the car)? What can you guys reccomend that I check for? This is my first car and it's going to be a daily driver (work, etc.).
I got a little $25g "project" lined up for it over the next 5 years...type R tranny, B18c block, B16 top end, 24 psi turbo, nos (maybe). Theoretically this combination can reach 500-600 horses (with the 150 hp nos shot). If this is accurate then I would be a very happy civic owner!

ummmm im not an expert really... but if you're looking for comments... i suggest you leave out the nos... i think it'd be a great car once you're done... but seriously... nos is gonna add to the wear and tear on the engine... or at least i think it would... the turbo would be nice... but leave the nos i say
then again... that's just my opinion and im just REAL REAL biased towards NA cars ... however... that would also prompt me to tell you to leave out the turbo... but hell why not... keep the turbo who could resist the sound of blow off valves hehe

umm I'd suggest checking the timing belt and water pump ... check the alignment and check bushings while under there...
also witht he engine setup you want to go for, I'd like to remind you that the block is Alumium and is an open design which means the side walls of the cylinders are not reinforced, I'd recommend building up the bottom end before adding that much boost to it or your 25grand project will cost 50grand when your done....

24 psi turbo That statement alone rendered the whole post idiotic... past that, there was no need to even read on... but then scrolling down I saw NOS, and fell off my chair laughing. $25,000 will get you maybe 1/2 of what you are looking for.... 12 psi and 250 hp... that's more realistic for $25Gs... and not a ITR tranny neither... LS tranny with Quaife differential.

$25Gs doesn't get you too much... consider my buddy just spent $7200USD on a custom turbo for a 7th gen Civic, and it's not even done yet... and that's no internals and no drivetrain work yet. So by the time he gets clutch, flywheel, LSD, axles, brakes, suspension, internal work, and some racing seats and harnesses, more gauges, ignition solution, knock sensor... that's already well over $25Gs. What this guy listed... consider that a ITR swap itself is like $6Gs for a decent one... plus internals for the engine, plus turbo bits, plus engine management, plus his NOS plus susp work, plus custom axles.... custom clutch, flywheel, haha... I don't even have to go on... you do the math.

Well if I was just going to build a motor like he wants too, I'd fine one with a spun bearing or something.
Piece a turbo kit together with the right parts and it can be cheap. I was going to have a 'custom kit' for $2000. That's not too bad imo.

The car was lady-driven on the highway in Woodbridge and never driven in the winter. Like I said, the engine purrs like a kitten and there is no rust anywhere on the car.
This is a true gem found in the mud. Sunroof, 4-wheel discs, power locks, 125 hp Civic Si engine, etc...

Anyhow, it'll rust like a bitch unless you store it or get some Crown rust proofing on that thing before winter. Hondas don't like salt and Ontario uses a lot of it.

Technically any car will rust, its all metal, all metal will oxidize eventually, so thats not a very smart thing to say, I've seen ALOT more rust on simular year Cavaliers and stuff... And altough civics don't have alot of power from the factory, they are awesome cars built with alot of quality. I like my civic alot altough its close to stock, its still a very nice ride.
