getting rid of ugly metal keys...

Hows it going, not sure if this is the right forum but i have a quick question.
I have a 99 SiR, and was wondering if i could get a newer style Honda key for my car. I'm sick of using an ugly metal after market key.

Thanks

well...you could get a stock honda key from a dealership. Just take all of your information into the dealership (reg, lic, ins) with you and they can cut you another one with the rubber cap. All of the new civics (01-present) come stock with an imobilizer chip installed in the key and 04 and up are the "laser cut" key. So try the dealership and let me know if you were able to get one made.

I'm pretty sure you can use a newer style laser cut key only if you change the ignition which will come with a new set of keys. The immobilizer wont be a problem because your ecu does not have that feature so it should just bypass it.

Still...it might just be easier to go to honda and get a standard honda black-top key. Probably cheaper too.

if you want to change the style of your key you're going to need a new ignition, door locks and trunk lock

I actually went to the dealership today, they did a pretty good job there. Also, it didn't cost me anything. I live in Hamilton, and I didn't know it was free I don't know if its just the one Honda dealer doing it or what, but they did it for free.

I would give them two packs of zip ties instead and tell them where to shove it.

I was more in shock.. it was a warranty issue (thankfully) so was supposed to be free

they're like, "sir, all the work is done but we noticed one of your return lines was close to the manifold and could have melted but we could care of it for you"

Me "thanks, thats very nice of you"
them "here you go"
Me "whats this"
them "an invoice"
me "invoice? the car is still under warranty"
them "not for the repair, for the parts for the return line, we didn't charge you any labour"
me"..........."
them:
me: thanks for not charging me the labour rate for putting on 2 zip ties

man I hate dealerships

Yea...the dealerships don't usually charge you for a key. I had to get another key cut by formula honda on scarborough becuase they lost mine.

There are numerious dealerships in or near Hamilton. Check it out:

I have a metal key, but it's also a butterfly knife!
I keep my original hidden away for safe keeping. I also keep one of the cheapo flat metal keys in my wallet cuz I'm an R-tard and I do things like go to hamilton to see ZEEMAN and lock my self outta my car at timmies.
