Without a full cage, a 4 or 5 point harness is much more dangerous than a standard lap and shoulder belt assembly. If you're going to be restrained in a rigid upright position in your seat by such a harness, you also need the added structural protection of that cage to help protect against passenger compartment intrusion.

Besides, it's illegal under the HTA to 1) remove your stock seatbelts, 2) replace them with anything other than manufacturer's stock items for that vehicles, and 3) actually use a non-stock harness unless you also have your stock seatbelts on.

4 and 5 point belts are not legal for street you, no matter what any one says, because if you get in a crash and roll your car, you can move out of the way, like you can with a 3 point belt.

they are legal if you have use them as inteded and they are DOT approved!
i got pulled over because i had one shoulder strap on and the lap belt, i said its same as a normal seat belt but the cop said it must be worn as intended, meaning both shoulder straps and the lap belt, and i took all the factory seatbelts out.
i did not have any harness bar or anything either. also a couple of my buddys have street/strip cars with harnesses and a harness bar, they've been pulled over for speeding before and cops never said a thing about the harness, the only thing they'll probably ask you is if its DOT approved and depending on the cop... what kind of times it runs lol

Actualy, 4-5 point harnesses are not street legal.
You can not modify your SRS in any way to a vehicle.
Which in turn, the 4-5 Harnesses will not take place of your normal seat belt.
Ive talked to many OPP officers with whats legal and whats not. You can have 4-5 harnesses installed, just when driving on streets and roads, you have to use your stock seatbelt
Its also a safety issue too, Say you got your 4 point on, and youre speeding, loose control, flip over. Car catchs fire, Rescue workers, most of them wont know how to unbuckle a racing harness.

Just keep your stock seat belt installed and use that one when daily driving.

Harness bars are legal as far as i know.

a harness bar is not illegal.
and a 4-5 point harness bar is most LIKELY illegal, i think FiveO said it best, but i also know about 50 people that drive with those kinds of harnesses year round and haven't been bothered/pulled over before for them.

You can drive around with them installed in your car.
You just cant use them as your primary seatbelts while driving on the streets
