More problems with 2002 Civic Si Veloz
Hi all!
I posted a couple of weeks back about some trouble with my Civic. Still having more and I'm so frustrated and fed up with Honda right now I could scream!
I purchased a 2002 Honda Civic Si Veloz in October 2002. Recently, I’ve been having a lot of problems with it. Tonight will be the fourth time I’ve taken it back to the dealership since January 9th.
My problems began on the morning of January 9th with the ABS light coming on when I would brake. This would in turn cause the radio to shut off, the gauges to drop to zero and the lights to go off. When I went out to my car that evening, it wouldn’t start. After being boosted, I took it up to the dealership and they replaced the battery. Two weeks later, it wouldn’t start again. So back up to the dealership, this time they couldn’t help me as nothing was coming up in their testing. This past Friday the same thing happened, the car wouldn’t start. They finally diagnosed the alternator and replaced it. I picked the car up last night and all seemed to be fine until this morning, when the original problem started again with the ABS light coming on.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Have you heard of anyone else with similar problems with the Civic Si? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

That's sounds like a lemon...
Have you approached Honda Canada, or started a greivance process...
The owner of your dealership should know first...
Then keep on going up the ladder...
My family friend has a new 2002 civic with ignition problems as well..
You want their number to exchange notes..
Its a girl so I hafta ask here before..
OK...

Thanks. I'm a girl too. If she doesn't mind, she can contact me via email at deb1976@netscape.net.
I've talked to the sales man, but I haven't gone any further. He assures me that the car is not a lemon since he drove it for a couple of months before me and he didn't have any problems.
It's just so frustrating, sometimes I wonder if I were a guy if they would treat the situation a little differently. When I called in on Friday morning, they actually had the nerve to ask if I was using the right key. Really pissed me off.
I guess I'll call the owner of the dealership and take it from there.

I feel like I own a Ford with all the trips back and forth to the dealership! LOL! I carefully researched before buying and everyone said buy a Honda Civic.
BTW, the dealership is Classic Honda in Brampton. Anyone have problems with them in the past?

maybe there is a short in the wiring somewhere that is causing this. I had a short with my brake lights once (caused by me though) but when i would press the brake my cluster (dash lights, speedo, tach, etc.) all shut off. The dealer may not have been able to find it b/c it may be a loose wire that is only shorting out every once in a while when it gets bumped for example..hopes this makes sense for you!

You may need to go to arbitration in order to get the proper fix for your car.
Meaning, contact CAMVAP... who are pretty useless if you're looking for a buy back, but if your primary goal is to have your problem corrected properly and not have to keep returning to the dealership for the car to get serviced.
Or at least speak to Honda Canada about the issue and tell them of your interest in involving CAMVAP, you'll probably get a much more effective response and will more than likely send higher level tech out to look at your car and go over it with a fine tooth comb until ALL problems are fixed.
So identify any and every possible issue you might have with your call and give honda canada a call and ask to speak to the District Serivce Manager... or whatever title he might have at honda.

My salesperson is Joe Rego. He's been very attentive and Cam in the service centre has been as well. All in all, they've been handling things well and I don't blame them for the problems. I just think that a couple of other folks working in their service department need to tighten their customer service skills a little. And with tonight's visit being the fourth in a month, I'm getting frustrated that whatever the problem is hasn't been resolved yet.
I haven't had anything installed or anything extra added to the car. I think they're going to look at the wiring and the electronics this time around though...find it a little puzzling that they didn't check that in the first place. Strange.
Hopefully whatever is wrong will be fixed this time. Thanks for the support everyone!

The problem definitely sounds like a wiring issue. So you didn't change anything on the car? Not even the radio? If not, then it is strange that there was no problem when it was being used as a demo.
Anyway, I hope they can fix it. If not, I would try another dealer.

and i've changed up the deck, full starter/alarm, etc etc..
why the abs light coming on would have any effect on everything else is mind boggling..
definitely a short somewhere, maybe a weak fusible link somewhere??
tho while yer car is there have them check the abs system as well..something is triggering the problem besides electrical..
hopefully they haven't tried bypassing something to hide one problem and caused others to happen as a consequence..
i'd contact those parties as listed above just to let them know yer getting a little concerned..this frankly should have been an easy fix with the tools and knowledge base available to them..
and if yer interested in another Veloz driving you up to their front doors, just holler..Brampton's just up the road 1/2 hour

The car is now at the dealership and the sales guy is going to have a mechanic with more experience try to solve the problem. He seems to think it's the wiring. So hopefully this will be the last time I have to take it in for this problem or any problem for that matter!
I did ask what would happen if this problem can't be solved and every week I have to bring it back in and I was told that they would replace the car for me. So we'll see what happens if it comes down to that.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
