My Poor Poor Civic...

My Poor Poor Civic...
Well, it's about 3:30am right now and i'm still in shock. I found out earlier this evening that my old 92 Civic was in an accident.
I got a call around 6 from the guy who bought it off me, this is how the conversation went:
him: "I have some bad news man... the car was in a big accident today"
me: "WHAT?! Again?!" (he crashed the car 6 days after buying it, but fixed it... $1600 damage) "Are you alright?"
him: "No, it wasn't me driving... I lent it to a friend and he got into the accident... do you have a stock hood or bumper?"
me: "No, how bad is it?"
him: "It's kinda bad, but I only have 3rd party insurance so none of it will be covered... it's at your body shop right now"
So I called up my friend at the shop and asked him just how bad it was and he started laughing... it was pretty bad. So I told them to stay open for half an hour until I can get there to check it out.
This is the damage:
- Bent Frame... The passenger side is noticably higher than the driver side. I couldn't see the rad support, but i'm sure it's messed up. If you look from underneath, you can see that the fram inbetween the rad support and firewall is really bent up.
- Corner lights are both smashed, and i'm sure the headlights are done too
- Carbon fiber hood is warped and clear coat is all messed up... finished
- Driver side fender is bent at the front
- The entire passenger side is messed, the fender is crunched, the door needs replacing for sure.... you can see the re-bar sticking out of the door skin, and the quarter panel is all warped
- Front passenger suspension is toast, the wheel is facing upwards... probably needs new control arms and there might even be some strut tower damage from the view I saw
- Even the exhaust looked like it was pushed back a bit
Apparently, the guy driving made a left turn and an oncoming car smacked into him. He got charged with an inproper or unsafe left turn. And... he only has 3rd party insurance for his car too. The guy who borrowed the car had his car in the shop just 2 weeks ago because he hopped a curb and bent up his lower control arm. One time I even saw that guy passing traffic on the opposite side of the road! It's safe to say that he's a crazy driver.
Basically, the car is a write-off... well it WOULD be if he was covered. I called him back and told him to expect to spend at least $4000-5000 to repair the car... and even then, it'll never be the same again. He obviously freaked... I don't think he understodd just how screwed the car was and I think his friend expected to be able to pay for the repairs out of his own pocket... these guys are both 20 by the way.
I didn't really tell anyone, but he also got in an accident only 6 days after picking it up off me. He spun out and went into a curb.. the rear passenger side trailing arm, control arm, and a few other parts needed to be replaced.
I took pictures, but I left my camera at my friend's house tonight.. i'll post some tomorrow... it's a real same and I really missed that car.
Sorry for the sob story... i'm just bored and needed to share
Here's some old pictures of the poor EG
Please join me in a moment of silence

well that sucks .. but you gotta remember you sold it and once you did that you should really try to let go....
also if you can for the sake of the rest of the drivers out there take his and his friends Licenses please....
just curious after you sold your car what project you working on now?
so is there going to be a parting out happening now?
(I know I'm a vulture but I'm proud of it)

Vince, it's a shame that your all hard work that went into that car went to ****. On the other hand, you sold the car, so your not loosing anything except sentimental value, but I'm sure we'd all feel the exact same way if the same thing happened to our cars.
I feel sorry for the buyer of your car, who is now stuck with a sticky situation. I doubt his friend can afford to pay the damages. Its going to be crazy expensive to fix frame damage.
Your hatch will go down with the rest of the best of them.

Damn man, really sorry to hear about your old car. That was one of the cleanest hatch's that I had seen around. Atleast you sold it but I know there will always be sentimental value. If the car is written off you should take a piece of it for memory man

Now now Sam... take it easy on Anthony haha.. I have luv for my fellow Captiva Blue EG Brotha!
G2> Thanks for the wing and sway bar man!
To summarize, he crashed it 6 days after buying it from me where he needed to replace basically the rear suspension... I went back to the shop this morning to look at the mess again and when looking underneath it, it seems that the rear subframe was welded back together from that first accident.
I sold it to him the last week of August, so he's only had for 3 months now.
He's not a buddy, but a friend of a friend... which is how he heard about my car for sale in the first place. I basically parted it out completely by the time he got it. The only thing I gave him with the car was a carbon hood, the front lip, the brembo brakes, a spare exhaust and maxspeed coilovers I had lying around, and a set of Integra rims. I even took off all the graphics, except for the fenders which were still covered in black vinyl.
If the car was to be parted out, there wouldn't be much to take.. except pieces of my mint mint interior.. but he was a smoker and didn't really clean it too much so i'm sure even those are messed up now. When I asked my friend if I should buy it back from him, he just had a good chuckle and asked if I was stupid haha.
The entire frame is lopsided, and when I looked at it again, I noticed that the exhaust somehow got pushed in so much that the bottom of the rear bumper sits in the middle of the tip so that it cuts into the bumper... it used to sit underneath and stuck out a bit.
He really thought his friend was going to pay for the damages... and i'm not sure where the situation stands now.
Here are some quick shots I took of the poor thing, i'll probably take a few more shots tomorrow if they lower it from the hoist.
Gatherer> My new project is a 94 Integra sedan... i'll throw some pictures up of the progress soon. Oh, and sorry about the group buy delay!
