Porsche 911 Racing Series

I watched a race last week sometime and have to say that it was some very entertaining racing. In a nutshell its a bunch of 911's racing. I'm not sure what modifications are allowed to be done to the cars, but it seemed like everybody was very close in power and handling. The races were quite short, too; I think they showed 2 in a half hour episode. This made for some VERY aggressive racing...Lots of passing, contact, spinning out, and driving off the course.

If you ever see it on the Speed channel check it out.

That was the Porsche Supercup in Europe. Very competitive series, and yes, all of the cars have the same rulebook. Makes for some close action.

Porsches strike me as extremely unreliable. I mean in GT2 class, where they race Cobra Rs, Corvettes, Vipers, Ferarris, out of like 8 Porsche cars, seems like only 2-3 finish usually the rest are DNF with mechanical failures.

Actually Porsches are probably the most reliable track/street car you can buy. There is no other car on the planet that will make such an amazing street car and you can take it to the track and beat the hell out of it. They are supper strong an reliable.

what are you basing that statement on? I'm basing my statement on watching several years of SCCA racing. I mean you must have reason to believe that?

I am basing that on working in the motorsport field for the past 12 years, and working with and talking to the drivers (pro). Just look at the quantities of Porsches in Grand Am, Rolex, Speed WC, and Series in Europe. They are Turnkey, low maintenence race cars. Cheap to run for the season, and rediculously fast and competitive.

C'mon Bruno, European cars are better than any other cars. If you need proof of that just listen to me repeat it a bunch of times.

LOL... that' cute

it's funny enough for me to accept it

for real though, if I honestly had to campaign a car in gt2 class, I'd go with the Corvette... for one simple reason. name ONE engine that has had more R&D and track time than the almighty 350 Chevrolet. that's right... NAME ONE! LOL oh yeah... rawkin the pavement for 50+ years. No other engine can make that claim.

What about the Air-cooled flat 6, I think 56 was the year it entered in competition.

That's an engine configuration, not a specific engine like a small block chevy. In '56 it was a 2.0L, in '56 the sbc was a 350. In '73 Porsche had a 2.7L, the sbc was still a 350. In '74 Porsche had a 3L... you get my drift.

The small block has just been around forever and lives on in the LS6 beasts of today. Although my personal favorite would be the LT5 from the ZR-1 Corvettes, which was pushing 400hp from the same engine a decade earlier than the Z06.

I would agree about the LT-5 great motor. I just drove the C-6 about an hour ago, great car and lots of power, but does not compare (IMO) with a Porsche. Just what I'm into I guess. BUT, I still know that the Porsche is the most reliable off the shelf race car.
