~ Rice? Why people who use this term bother me

Sometimes, I spend a part of my day reading the forums, and I have noticed a horrible trend.

People tend to call what other people do, "rice", which is not exactly true in many cases.

If a person has a Civic, and its black lets say, and does not like the way his or her tail lights are red, and would rather they be blacked out, then how the heck is that rice? is that person claiming anything about their car? They simply wanted a different look. So they buy the part from, lets say OptionJDM, and install it, and the car looks better.

Now if a person, who has lets say a bargain basement sohc non-vtec 90hp engine d17y for example, and put all over his or her car "Type-R", or DOHC or something that has nothing to do with what the car actually has, then ok, that person is just wasting their time, because once they start driving, everyone and their mother will know the car is a bucket.

Or they if for example, advertised their car as being dropped, and acting like its using high end parts (shocks/struts/coilovers) and really the person decided to cut their springs, and have camber/negative wear to die for.. that's rice.

Its like when a person is posing as if their car is "off the hook" but really it is just a fake wanna-be "rice" rocket

Just find it odd, everyone talks crap about others cars, but if you ask what they themselves drive, they are silent.. If a person puts effort into their car, they should be congratulated on their attempt, even if -you- do not like it, they do. I wish people would be more respectful of others.

Its just sad.

haha buddy

rice is just a term to describe a car being done up... either good or bad, being done up is rice...

its like when you "eat", no matter what you're eating, you're "eating". you have to accept that fact... rice is actually not a negative term, lots of people out there admit they are ricers or they like to rice up their ride haha.. there's nothing negative.. maybe you're over sensitive, perhaps someone offended you in some way?

seriously, if someone call my ride rice, i'll be like... i like rice! haha.. but then of course my ride is not even done up in anyway, so i haven't been called ricer yet... its different people with different taste... some are ricer, some aren't... (metaphor to those who likes to done up car and some doesn't)

its something you have to accept... sorry to say this, but you have to get use to it... =)

Rice is a NEGATIVE term.

Nobody says to someone with a sweet car, with 20k dumped into it, and fast as hell, 400hp engine, RICE.

They call a car with alteeza lights (which are popular for some reason) and stickers of parts that they do not even have, or are not even made for that model of car.

EITHER way, what a person puts in their car is their business. And 90% of the time, a person trashing another person's car, doesnt show what they are driving, unless they car is better, they should keep their rude comments to themselves.

people who "do up" their cars without any originality or thought, simply to draw attention to themselves will draw negative attention to themselves.. if you dont want to be a ricer, then leave your car alone and no one will call your stock car "rice"

i agree with the notion 'riced up' is just a fun way of saying 'tuner'.

imagine if TV shows like 'Redline TV' or 'NOPI Tunervision' used 'ricer'? They'd be sued or something silly i imagine... but its the same. If you are offended by 'ricer', don't modify your car from stock - simple as that. If you wanna correct someone calling your 'tuner' a 'ricer', just peel your tires, and leave them in a cloud of white smoke

I see a $250,000 Toyota Supra outside my work every day (the one that was t the car show and in the Toronto Star) and I still call it a ricer...

Anything you personally don't like or find appealing, you have the right to call it "rice"

That is the mentality what most people have.

Then again, majority of people follow what others say. If you find a car mediocre while others are giving it praise, you will most likely go with the flow and say it is good, even though part of you wishes to voice your opinion.

In general, people do up their car based on what the trend is. It is that simple. To be in the main stream will net you most praises, and acceptances.

I like stickers, graphics, big wheels, spoilers, wide body, and all kinds of toys but I have my own way of putting them together. It is like how you dress yourself. I don't go around calling kids who dress up like gangsters while they are deep down, just a normal kid, ricers.

Would you?

"exterior upgrades" that wants to make them look fast is different from "internal upgrades" that actually make the car run fast.... there's a difference in that....

why "rice" is negative is simply people who mod their car, but lacks in the confidence in their own work, so when they are called rice, they get offended.... that's how i see it... if you're confident in your own work, your own design, you wouldn't be bugged by the term rice... just take it as a word to mean "tuner" (like said above), just that rice is a funny thing....... btw, who started that word?

if rice is so annoying, let's called your ride "noodle" hahaha... i like that too yo...

My friend people choose not to respect others for many reasons, but they all point to selfish desire. One person feels that they build themselves up by putting others down. It really is sad because the internet allows us to reach more people giving us the opportunity to enrich someone's life with love and kindness.

People who use the term "rice" intend it to be unfriendly, and then wonder why it is perceived that way. Or why it upsets another.

What do I know? I believe I will reap what I sow...
