alright...
I went and looked at it today, and test drove it...I gotta say, with 150HP and whats more important is 170torque I wasin't that impressed...I mean it's alright and I can feel the pull at about 3500rpm..lol, I know it's not a fast car..but it drove very smooth but the clutch was a bit hard to get used to because it comes up so quick...I worked it out with the guy I would be paying 228.90 a month including taxes..so that's not bad and it's within my price range...but i'm going to keep on looking, not like i'm saying forget about this car..but I always like to look around anytime i'm spending more then a thousand dollars lol

both are nice cars when you compare them side by side...
i would give a 6spd car a bit of an edge over the 5spd...
but again, try to test drive all options you consider... pick the best one you would enjoy over a long term... don't buy something and realize you don't even like it in a week or so

good luck... and both are good choices... tough pick

^ I would assume that is a lease price. Not bad actually. I wonder how much the ALR % is at VW.

I too am looking for a new car and the VW looks like a very good choice. However, like Michael said before, I too am concerned about reliability. If Honda would offer a 4 DR hatch I would not even think twice, but between a Honda 4DR sedan and a 4DR hatch I would much rather go for the latter. Unless, of course Honda will offer the 4DR Si in Canada.

What is this about VW reliability. I've worked for my step dad's shop and a European specific shop and I find VW's more then reliable. I've only experienced one newer TDI with a weird wiring problem of the 100+ I've worked on. Every car maker has there problems and if VW's are maintained right they will last a very long time.

Case in point a friends dad has a 1990 Jetta Deisel with over 600,000km on original motor and transmission. Also a VW body in my opinion will out last that of a Honda any day.

golf = 2006
rabbit = 2007

no more golfs in 2007 model year...and rozzini, consumer reports doesnt make up reliability issues with VW for no reason...I've dealt with my fair share of vw and they were full of gremlins...mostly electrical and ignition

Cynikal I'm just stating my personal experiences. I still feel VW's are built 10x better. And like I said all car makers have there problems, even Honda's.

I'm probably preaching to the wrong crowd on a Civic's forum. I'm not downing Honda's at all, I'm just saying I recognize other quality brands out there.

I agree that a VW body (without care) will outlast a Honda body...

however I dont' believe the recent ones are as reliable....Consumer reports last year did NOT recomend the Golf/Jetta platform because it deemed to be unreliable...

hopefully the new generation is better (I haven't read anything on the current Jetta yet)...

Sorry I haven't read consumer reports on VW's in a long time. I base a good part of my experience with VW's off of the older styles (pre 1999). I'm kind of bias to older cars as I feel that a good majority of new cars are built like crap. Again just a personal opinion.

you know what it is...VW owners love the cars and the problems that come with them...hell I owned a 84 GTI and I love it...I love mkii golfs but I know they are nightmares of wiring problems and such but the hardcore owners are hardcore and deal with em. but coming from a consumer standpoint the last few versions of VW were not a smart buy by no means yet they still sell...followers will always follow, brand devotion is strong

Cynikal speaks the truth. No matter what brand, there will always be followers. Example: every car forum ever made.

its a nice car , but for less money if u want german power and class , u can pick up an used audi like my buddy did this past week

yes its used but much cheaper and class and power

2001 Audi A6 2.7 T Quattro 6spd.. ..he paid $14k taxes in --its got 110km 2.7 v6 250 hp

this thing is machine and genuine proved german engineering

as the vw golf/rabbit are like base models of the german line up

20k u get a new vw or for about 5k less u get a car with class, comfort,performance and handling

good luck anyways , i'd still stick to jap crap
