about deposit

last week. I finally made a decision for my cousin to get an SIR
the car selling at 15500
so..he asked for 1000 deposit before he fix anything
so...i kind of asked to put down 500 deposit instead
and he said yes...
so..we went to the bank and gave him 500 cash deposit
having a note with his signature and a witness saying that i gave 500 deposit and i will be paying 15000 on the day we do all the name transferring
but now...that guy is being an *******. he said he is not willing to go to the transportation department to do the name transferring
i asked him why, he said its such a waste of time
he said he will give me all the paper work including Etest, Cert, and all the documents that we need to do the name transfer. but he wants us to put down the money first before we take away the paper from him... of couse i would say "no". cuz i'm afraid there might be problems with the name transfer and he run away with the money and the car, so after i told him that i dun feel comfortable with his plan, he started to bitch at me saying that he never seen such a buyer like me, being so annoying and shXt, he said its so simple that all i need is give him the money and then bring the paper work there myself....
so...the question now is....
If i want to cancel the offer now since its too risky..am i able to get back the $500 deposit since he didn't satisfy my request

plz forgive me if it sounds dumb to u

I dont think you will be able to get the 500 dollars back, as it was a deposit. You could get some legal people involved if you really wanted the 500 back.

yes, i'm willing to get some legal people involved
the main point is he doesn't deserve for that $500
so...i guess i shouldn't out down any deposit next time if buying cars

If you have all the paperwork you should be all good to go.

Make sure you have the keys and pick the car up as soon as your done with the M.o.t. office. Even better have a buddy wait at the guy place until you get back.

If the guy is being more of a dick... $500 is a lot to lose but better than $15500

bring some muscle with you, give him your muscle the money to hold and have him wait with the dude selling the car and when you transfer the ownership call your muscle and tell him to give him the money

or write him a post dated cheque, then if something happens with the ownership you can cancel it

if he says no try to get your money back (obviously) and look elsewhere for a car. he seems shady, of course he could be a lazy ****head too.

buy a 15 day permit and give the guy his money and drive to the MTO and your good to go.
did you ever think he doesnt trust you ?
he may be thinking you go and transfer everything and say that you already gave him the cash and now the car is in your name and he is screwed.
just a thought.

i'd say be patient and look for another sir, many of good ones out there i believe.

as for 500 bucks, get legal help and get it back, sure u can win in this case.

from what I've seen most used car dealer will be more then willing to drive you to the closest MTO office to do the change in ownership. once you have all the paper work thats all you need to get it registered in your name besides getting insurance on it. so hey once you pay him and he gives you the paper work your good to go
