You live once , enjoy life and go for it

Just get the 1.8 20th Anniversary

Get something different (VW) , I am aHonda Fan , but there are WAY too many civics out there

Just make sure the one you get is Made in Germany not Mexico

Also don't forget about using the company demo plan

After a certain time , they ground the Unit , and you take another one

our dealership doesnt offer a demo program, or else i would do that and NOT sell my car, hence the car allowance instead of a demo program.... its nice to see everyone supporting the new car idea because financially i think thats the best bet...I dont know tho....i love my car.
anyways...

you will forever regret the very thought of buying a VW if you buy it. electrical is pure *** on these cars, and they all share the same electricals... alarm not working/or working in the inappropriate times (ie while driving), coolant reaching the ECU through the coolant temp sensor wiring and shorting it out, SHITTIEST WARRANTY IN THE WORLD!!!!, pwr windows operating at will, dash lights intermittently not working, door hinges sagging... ugh... and this is a 2000 Golf, 100K kms.

For sale, silver 2000 Golf TDI, 100K kms $14K Mint body, well kept, typical VW....

thats your opinion, as everyone has one...i sell them, i like them and in my opinion, aside from HOnda of course, they are one of the better cars on the market....german engineering (almost) cant be beat. And shittiest warranty? Guy, i dont know where you bought your car but its the longest warranty out there in its class...4yr 80,000kms? What are you talkin about? I will concur with the windows as the jettas sometimes have a tendency to lose their wondows into the doors for no apparent reason (Tho thats covered in the shitty warranty) maybe you just got a lemon???

Ummm... not just my opinion sweetheart, I owned one and I gave it to my dad to use. It's an absolute peice of ****, and I wish I had been struck by a bus on my way to go sign the papers for this peice of **** car. I just wanna put out out on the curb, but I'm afraid the garbage men won't take it away

Just what class is this where 4 yrs is a long time???? Cars have mostly 5 and 7 year warranties now. And I bought mine at Windosor VW, part of the Gus Revenberg family... My brother had a Jetta... that one we had to sell long ago (it was an early Mk4 new style 1999) cuz that was a hunk of **** too. My buddy has a 1998 VR6 GLX, and his was the first case of the power windows and alarm ******* up that I had personally seen. My buddy's 1996 Golf VR6 burned to the ground from an electical fault... totally stock car. Another buddy sold his Mk3 old model 1999 VR6 Golf cuz he started having problems too. Are these all lemons??? Everyone I know with a VW product has had to get rid of 'em. I pee on German engineering (btw: my bro is now in germany doing a masters in engineering )

nothin personal ... just saying how it is. great looking cars, just not well engineered/built. And they burn out lighbulbs faster than I can replace them, esp tail lights and ALL the Mark 4s do it Chassis is quite solid, and despite massive body roll they do handle exceptionally well...it takes a real effort for me to get the car to drift. 4 wheel disk brakes are a nice feature, but an absolute pain in the *** to service the rear calipers. Interior rattles like mad.

i see all your points i just differ in opinion any car is gonna have problems im just tihnkin i have a huge advangtage. U see...the two biggest expenses in a persons life are houses and cars (excluding kids) and i am in a positions where i can buy and sell cars at cost...I can buy a brand new GTI 1.8T loaded with leather, roof etc, and pay 100 bucks a month for a 4 year lease....dont know if i would lease but it keeps the payments down and i can buy it out at the end. All im sayin is obviously if i was gonna go out and buy a new car id buy a honda but when i can buy a car at cost and have most of it paid for by my company why not right?

PS- the other waranties ur comparing are for powertrain, VW powertrain warranty is also 5yr 100.000 kms but the Total Care or bumper to bumper warranty is 4yr 80. And theres also a 12 year body waranty agains rust/perforation...

Nothing wrong with getting a VW, just don't keep it for too long, get yourself a 2 year lease and keep flipping them. My buddy works at VW Canada in Oshawa and is driving a black 20th anniversary right now, great car, love the 18's, goes like stink. I would NEVER buy a VW, but he's got a good thing going, he has to get a new one every 9-10 months, no worries there.

You might have better luck parting your car (and damn it I want the wheels and hood).

Last but not least, don't let anyone (even your dad) pressure you into making a decision you don't want to make, if you love your civic and need to put a little cash into it to keep it going (as we all do) then do it. I could never sell mine, nobody could make me, and gladly, since it's been paid for for years, there's no reason too, even when I do get a new car next Fall (I'm hoping the K20 will be in the Acura EL by then).

Do what you think you should do (lotsa help aren't I?) your dad's probably right, financially, but if we all bought cars thinking financially we'd all be driving Toyota Echos.

I get Z-plan for all Ford (incl Mazda, Lincoln, Land Rover, Mercury... anything Ford owns a part of) yet I still don't think I'd go for a Ford unless I was leasing, or if I was getting a Mazda built in Japan. I've been paying $550/month for this god damned Golf, and every oil change is $100 cuz of the special synth oil they use, and the oddball filter... timing belt changes every 60K kms... now glow plugs, and I just found all the return lines are cracking and must be replaced, the coolant expansion tank must be replaced cuz coolant is being forced into the wiring harness through the tank, and that's in addition to fixing the factory alarm that controls the power locks. Warranty we had was 2/40K bumper to bumper, and 3/60K powertrain. On the Jetta (Mexican built, so I figured the coverage would be worth it) we had purchased a Global Warranty plan for $1500 which covered all the work that was done on that vehicle... on this car I chose NOT to get the extended warranty plan cuz $1500 seemed like too much for a "well built" German car... boy was I wrong. It seems like a bargain now. On the plus side, it does have some cool windshiled wipers and nice blue lights on the dash that is when they work. BTW, I had older VWs that I absolutely LOVED... like Mark 1 and Mark 2 vehicles... I used to have a 2 door Jetta (how cool is that!!!) and Rabbit 1984 GTi. WAY cool!!... previously back in europe, my dad worked for VW...and we always had VW cars... ALWAYS. They were good before CES2 was implemented sometime in 1992. After Central Electric System 2 was put in all the vehicles, thats when all the problems started. Upholstery is **** too, and wear can already be seen on the dr side of the 2000.

Haha... donkey punch

Mine are positive statements as opposed to normative. VWs are ***, and they are expensive to repair... which is something that needs to be done often.

I never said "one should not buy a VW" cuz that's simply not true... if you need a low gas-consumption vehicle that is not an Insight or a Prius, you really have no choice.

No one is selling the bbarbulos... everyone wants to keep them forever. Slightly used models sell for more than brand new ones and brand new ones have a waiting list of 2 years. You may try your luck finding a BOND007 in DuPont's Registry. I used to own a fine example of a mint BOND007, but I lost it in a poker hand.

i have a stupid question, what is a "donkey punch" LOL

i saw your car at cayuga, very sweet 4dr, that car is in excellent condition, just looked good all around, but if ur having serious problems u might wanna think about ur decision quick, i remember my first car, my old crx, well i bought it found out i had to do 400 bux worth of rear brakes, my buddy warned me, sell it now b4 u spend ne more money, well i didnt listen and i ended up spending over 4g;s just repairing the car, and it was always minor things going wrong. now i bought my 93 dx for 1000 bux cert and etest i have not put 1 cent into this car for repairs just upgrades becuase i love to mod cars. so to me this time this car was a pretty good investment even tthought i took it in the *** a couple times with my other car

vw gti are a very nice car imo my friend is a vw freak, i personally have only driven 1 vw a 93 golf, very nice solid car i thought, now he has a broken idler gear (all them had it one time or another) and just other stupid problems costing him a fortune. a new gti might be another story and with that kinda warrenty, keep it for a few years then sell it and becuase u saved so much money on the vw working thru the dealer use what u make on the car as a huge downpayment on a honda this would bring the cost down on a honda for sure, i guess if u can stick it out without ur car i dunno .
