annoying Civic Si ad
Don't get me wrong, I like the new Civic Si and all, but I hate that relatively new radio ad for it. It's the one where you hear it redlining. In the ad, it sounds so freakin' high pitched and whiney. I'm sure it doesn't sound like that in real life, does it? Then there is the part where the guy is like "This is what the Civic Si sounds like at redline ... and this is what your car sounds like". (and you hear dead silence). As if the car is going to sound like that during daily driving?

would you really buy the car if you hear a commercial that made you think positively of it?
awareness and top of mind is KEY when it comes to advertising... you can be positive all you want but you'd rather be top of mind than down on the list somewhere where the person might know what you're talking about but doesn't think about it without being prompted...
that commercial was done very smartly, good use of silence and the sound of the engine etc... comparisons etc...
you're also more than likely not in their target audience demographic so they weren't concerned with what people like you would think... no offense, but these things are targeted fairly specifically

On another note, they actually do sound like the commercial. By the sounds of the ad, it is just before the VTEC crossover. After that, it gets much louder.

actually, I somewhat agree... I've never heard that particular commercial, but I HATE the VW ones where the old guy in the white suit 'unpimps' ppl's rides.... what a ****ing 'tard. 1st, learn to speak english... then, learn not to bite the hand that feeds you. the new market for the GTI is largely based on all the groundwork that the performance aftermarket has laid for them. so to turn around and diss the performance aftermarket is a huge mistake imo.

i was just saying that based on his info that said he drove a '94 civic... people that drive 12 yr old cars usually buy used, so he might move up even as far as a 03 or 04 but he probably doesn't see value in an '07 Si brand new off the lot...
the civic has a huge advantage right now as luxury car sales are down over the last year, and people no longer consider 'economy' to be crappy, they see it as being wise with their money... a civic si gives you all the economy you want along with some pep, but you still don't feel terrible cuz it's a 4 banger and gets some good gas mileage...

Those VW commercials are hilarious I think. The car's are so overly ricey. "The Flame" on the back of the Focus cracks me up.
I like the new BMW commercial that shows a car lapping Nurburgring. At the end its an SUV. The C6 Vette commercial that had the little kid driving the Vette was good too.

yeah, overly ricey now, sure... but nonetheless, those would have been magazine cars in 1999/2000... and in that time the groundwork for what was to come in the aftermarket was being laid. you gotta know and respect where the automotive market came from. VW can eat my *** with a spoon for that commercial.
the GTI comes with what is basically a body kit, big wheels, black housing headlights, etc. etc... you get what I mean.

Honda usually comes up with some catchy ads on TV. I especially like that one where they (4 owners) were washing their Civics with that catchy Japanese tune playing in the background. But as for that one you mentioned on the radio, I think it was made right at the radio station here in Toronto in like 5 minutes.

I agree, this new si ad is kind of anoying. it actually sounds like it's struggling to make power....like it's run out of steam.
I do believe it is the k20 screaming in the ad, however, it's with stock exhaust and air intake, so it sound like crap (no offence).
So when I first heard the ad, he says "this is the honda civic si redlining at 8000rpm (screeeeeem)...and this is your car..." thats when I cracked vtec in my b16, with short ram intake and exhaust, to pass someone, and thought: mine sounds much better...LOL..
They could have used a better sound clip or changed the ad to have no sound and just talk about the car instead.
