Any Cadillac Owners or Know Abouters?
I'm seriously pondering gettin rid of the hatch and grabbing me a cadillac fleetwood or STS or something nice a big and luxor!
what I would like to know is whats the deal on caddies? reliabilty wise etc.
I'm pretty much hooked on a 94ish fleetwood, big body, big motor and they come pretty affordable (about the same price as a similar aged civic)
anybody have anything to tell me or what to look out for etc etc (other than gas consumption) chime in and lemme know
thanks

Caddys are pritty cush, and I have thought of one myself. Contrary to what haters might say, The older GMs are fairly reliable and worry free, provided they have been maintained. That said , try and pick one up from a grampa or something. That way you'll know that it has been to the shop regular and it wouldn't have been beat on. the only thing I would be cautious of is the suspensions on these cars. Some of them have levelers which I'm sure are air bags so make sure the system ain't effed up. Other than that, some one prob knows more about it than I do!!

I would think most fleetwoods woulda been owned by and older gentleman, they are boats for cryin out loud...I wanna try and find one with the rag/vinyl roof...but as long as it aint red I'm all for it
woodgrain on the dash, wires on the feet...thats all I need

I am not a "Cadillac Hater" by any means but I can tell you this much from a mechanical and reliablity stand point, in the early years of the Northstar GM had alot of problems with that motor and are still havin some problems with it to this day, also the maintenance is rediculously expensive not just because its a Cadillac but because it is not an easy car to work on at all. These cars also suffered from alot of electrical problems and since there are tonnes and tonnes of electronics in those cars there a real night mare when thing start to go wrong. And I might also add that alot of the parts are only available through GM and are very pricey. It really is a pimp car, it has excellent power, its very smooth and rides really nicely so as long as you are willing to put up with the problems that get inhereted with the car then I would say take it.

I'd rather have caddy problems than civic problems lol...atleast its a car and not a toy
anyways, I have talked to some caddy guys and they recommended the fleetwood instead of a STS on a reliability standpoint...or the Opel based catera, but I need something big!!! big man, big car...no more little *** civic.

Thrill_House twaked my memory glands. I remember hearing that caddys have some degree of electrical probs. You get your good and bad with every car. I hope that whatever you pick works out for you.
Myself, I want a truck, but it will be civic while gas price is high.
Are you a tall guy? do you need a bigger car?
And you can get a 6 sp in a Legend, that coupe is the Sick Mobile

Hell, maybe you could even consider looking for a nice older lexus, excellent cars overall and you can find some nice older ones out there for decent prices. And a lexus will last alot longer and have way less problems then the Caddy in the long run.

i have a 95 STS white. very expensive parts and you basically have to go to the dealer or the codes wont get cleared properly. watch the heater seats as if u turn them on high it will burn your ***. check the tailights for moisture as they tend to leak like alteezas. only thing i dont like is the climate control system is awkward. get the STS. otherwise people will think some old jewish lady drives it. btw it uses premium gas, and to be honest it gets twice the mileage my jeep does. in 96 they come with nicer chrome rims. if i could i would throw 20" spinners on mine but i have other projects on the go. plus they go like stink. when i do 160 in my honda u feel it. 160 in the cadillac is nothing. hit the hammer and it still goes. also not a bad sound system for factory

if your going for a fleetwood, go for a pre '97 car. Unlike the northstar engined FWD '97-02 fleetwoods the older ones are based on a GM RWD b-body chassis(think caprice/roadmaster) and are virtually undestructable. Even better is that the 94-96 came with the 260hp LT1 350.
Edit:
And another thing, if your concerned about gas mileage, the LT1 with the automatic and the 2.91 or 2.73 rear gear will return about 25 mpg on the highway.

I dont want a manual transmission car...like ever again, till maybe my midlife crisis or I buy a posche...creepin slow with the tunes on is more than I need...yea, I was doin some more research and a 94 fleetwood with the LT1 is for sure what I'm lookin at, those motors are great and 25mpg highway is good enough for me
20's are too big, I want the smallest 100spokes I can possibly fit over the brakes with white wall tires...somethin pimpin and practical...and if coin permits, full out air ride suspension to get it up and down low
I'm pretty set away from the STS just cuz the fleetwood looks much more pimp and its more spacious...bench seat like what!!!!
