Any HR professionals here?
My workplace is becoming unbearable, I'm in a management position and wondering if it's better to just resign or take a leave? The stress is rediculous and they are giving me a hard time for taking time off for my nephews death and the councelling our family goes to to help deal with the situtation.
Any input would be greatly apprciated.

I'm no HR, but I am a former manager as well..The best thing to do is to take a leave of stress. I believe you can take up to 6 weeks. If it is extreme where your HR team is pressuring you with crap..just call HR Canada and you can get advise from them..I've called them in the past...hope that helps!

Imho, if you are entitled a leave of absence, be it a stress leave or not, take advantage, and use the time to sort things out, then make a decision.
Once again, condolences on your nephew's death.

I would however try to keep some dignity and take a stress leave. I have my HR cert from college and i took business, the wife is in uni for HR as well. They have to give you the same job back or equal when you return. Same as pregnancy leave. Sounds like you are going through a pretty stressful time. Just remember you dont get full pay, I think its roughly 67 percent up to a certain maximum.
You also might recieve some backlash when you return from people who think you are abusing the system blah blah. its always been a problem but nothing can really be done about it although it is a form of harrassment.

Being the type of person I am I would give them as mush **** that they're giving you, since I don't believe someone in your situation should be pressured considering the emotional extremities I'm sure you are feeling. Perhaps a leave of absence is the best route to take. Think of your mental health and well being, don't worry about what HR is pressuring you to do. If it were any one of them in your situation, I guarantee you they'd be off for weeks.
