Anyone else born with extra limbs?
So I apparently have an extra rib at the top of my right side. Cervical rib.
It is causing me to be in pain alot and now have thoracic outlet syndrome.
It really sucks, and I am looking for some advice.....
1) healthcare help me out in anyway (gov't free ****)?
2) can I get a handicap sticker?
3) anyone else have weird **** wrong with them?

its an extreme option, but i prefer not them to do that. Hence why i've been going to physio the past 5-6mths trying to solve this. The past 1.5mths have shown the most progress.
My first problem was with my elbow and throwing, it hurt so bad, tingly, couldn't lift it, numbness, awful ****. First diagnoses was lateral epicondylits. Went for physio, helped a bit, but then it shifted to other side of my arm, then diagnosed with medial epicondyltis. Nothing was helping really.
I then went for a second opinion to a different physiotherapist. She diagnosed me with thoracic outlet syndrome. Have been getting treated since 1.5mths ago. Massive improvement. I can sleep night now without pain, throw a baseball without massive pain, and now that the elbow pain is gone, its in my shoulder. Now going for an ultrasound on my shoulder and xrays. (soon).
At the beginning of this disaster (last august/1year ago). I was told by my family doctor that "it will go away/heal itself within 3-6 mths". Not even close, thats when i started physio.
hell....

How long do they recommend you wait (in pain) before surgery becomes your only option?

lol@handicap pass .. I have one, and your going to need a lot more then an Extra rib to obtain one yourself.
Try crushing a leg 9mm shorter then stock then having to have the soab rebuilt with Titanium and bone density *****. Be diagnosed with Chronic pain and also be told that Physio can only do so much, your basically screwed due to current medical science. Then get a doctor and a surgeon to fill out the forms and hope the Ontario Gov't approves you. The process is a bitch but I now get the best parking without fear of door dings. Going to suck ***** later in life when I'm gimping around tho.

i think your doctor would have given you more useful information on this than everyone on this forum combined could.
they can't just cut it out?
some chick i know had a problem with blood getting to her legs to the point she wouldn't have been able to walk at all.. they put some tubes up her hoohaa cut and carved inside her body, now she can go jogging again.
science is amazing. i'm sure they can fix you up.

So they are giving you medication and making you do physio to help this problem? How is that supposed to help? You have an extra rib, it's not like physio could get rid of it, and medication will only supress the pain temporarily.
How long do they recommend you wait (in pain) before surgery becomes your only option?

no medication.
They said they could heal the existing problem with time, but as long as i dont aggrevate it again badly.
The don't suggest removing the rib....

So no baseball, gym, fishing, sailing, tubing, etc etc........that's tough man. You say 'heal with time', what is that...like 1 year?

One thing you can do, if you haven't already, is to research as much as you can on Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...at least it's a good place to start. Educate yourself thoroughly about it. Apparently, a number of MLB players have suffered from this same ailment.

maybe you should have found another doctor a long time ago. My old doctor died. I went through 5-6 doctors before I found the guy I'm with now.
Just about every time I see him he shakes his head about something I've done. When I told him I branded myself, his reaction alone was worth the branding.
A lot of them are stupid. Go to a bunch of doctors and pick one you like. Make sure he's been practicing in that office for at least 10 years and don't go with one that is too old.
Ask about things that concern you and see how knowledgeable he is. Your taxes pay for it, don't stick with the first idiot you see.
