LOL, think you meant skipping.................as far as vinyl or cd, it's gonna be a preference thing. In my opinion, vinyl gives better sound than cd. Problem is, they get worn being played too much where as cd's don't. I am sure some will disagree, but again, its a preference.

Yep, love the vinyl, but you are so right when it comes to transportation. Carrying around a bunch of records is a pain in the ***, not to mention, finding crates to put them in, etc etc. CD's is very convenient. I have seen some guys just using a laptop and mixing off of harddrives as well.

yep when i first transferd my vinyl to CD ppl thought i was stupid and i would get laffed at .. but its all about moving with the technology .. right now all the vinyl DJs are hating because they have collected so much vinyl and now have no other option than to stick withit they cant back up all that ish are u NUTS ... lol .. so in return they hate on us and say we are not "real" djs when in real fact a DJ regardless of his media of choice still has to mix the same way .. can still manipulate the music the EXACT same way (some of yall might not even tell that Scratch uses CDS 60% of this time on the mix shows) point is .. new djs will go with cds cause its smarter more compact and easier to work with .. older djs have no option than to stay with there 9999999999 LBs of music

I DJ from time to time with my Brother and friends in his basement.......A few things that may help you:
1. Its expensive as hell. Records arent cheap ($15 each on average) However I HIGHLY recommend buying your vinyl on Ebay.....Big time savings. The Equipment is not cheap at all either.
2. As for the CD vs. Vinyl bit......unless you have 3 g's you don't want learning to beatmatch on CDs is out of the question. Vinyl is nice because you can lay your hands on it, speed it up, slow it down, scratch it, whatever. You simply cannot learn(or afford to learn) how to master these essential DJ skills with CDs. I will say that for the first time last week I saw Dimitri from Paris play an entire set on CDJ's and my mind was blown....
3. It's a lot harder than it looks. I've been spinning on occassion for almost 8 years, and can still clear a room with a kief mix. Practice makes perfect.
4. If you enjoy music, and have a passion to learn how to spin, you will find it to be very rewarding. I like to have a few drinks, smoke a nice one and just play to my heart's content. When you hit that one mix just right, or get everybody dancing, it's all worth it, the money the time etc...
I honestly find it to be very therapeutic to just hit the decks and get lost in it for an hour or 2.....very refreshing.
I do suggest you find someone who already has equipment, and give it a try before you buy. Keep fit and have fun!

I started with vinyl cuz i feel "to get to where your going you got to kno where you've been." I'll eventually move to digital cuz its smarter, but ill still incorporate the classic wax pieces ive collected.
Vinyl just has this warm sound that you cant get from CD...hard to describe the feeling you get when you pull that one record you havent heard in ages and put the needle to it.

I will have to disagree, The sound quality on Vinyl is fantatsic......just one example.....my bro bought Darkside of the Moon on some special edition brand new vinyl......now I've heard that album a bijillion times on CD, but when he played the vinyl there were things I couldnt hear on the CD, and a lot more things that were clearer on the vinyl. Popping and static does suck, so keep your vinyl clean and dont leave it in the back of your car etc and you'll be just fine.

vinyl gives a warmer tone to the sound...its more live, digital is a colder darker sound
both formats have their pros and cons...on a side note, I think I may retire all my gear and put it up for sale...who knows, it'll be a tough choice to let it all go

My Bro has a Denon CD deal to play CDs on with pitch control and all that.... I have used it on occassion, but I miss the tactile nature of the vinyl, I like the hands on approach to mixing and beatmatching and I cant afford CDJ's for a bizillion dollars.
I will say though when I saw Dimitri play he was clearly using a CD with a "prefabbed mix" if you will of tracks he'd mixed, remixed and edited and then mixing 2 of those CDs and it was SICK....but I suppose you could just press your own vinyl too lol.....when CDJ are more affordable I will make the switch....until then the debate rages on!

OK. It is true I know **** all about things that spin CDs in the same manner as a record so you can line up the beat and beatmatch etc. If these pieces are not referred to as CDJ's my apologies. Whatever you call these CD spinning devices doesnt matter, because I call them too expensive. The tactile nature of vinyl is precisely what makes it different than CD's at this point to me. To say I don't know whats going on in the DJ scene is a little steep I'd say.
Anyways buddy you have fun with your CDs for now, I'll have fun with my vinyl, and when I can afford it, we'll get together and have a big jam session, cause thats what it's all about anyways. Peace!

Digital music is compressed, and during that compression some qualities are lost... so cds will never have that full sound vinyl has....u can hear it on a crisp system. Plus the scratch sound made with digital is just plain cheesy.
