Back from Varadero (review and pics)
As some of you may know, I recently went to Varadero Cuba for a vacation/ my wedding. I thought I'd post a review and some pics for everyone to see.
From what I saw of Cuba, mostly the Varadero area, it looks like a pretty nice place. Very tropical, lots of palm trees, etc. But, it is very dirty and poverty seems to be everywhere. I've never been there and I didn't know what to expect. I actually saw people living in caves. No one has a car, just scooters. The nicest car I saw was a 10 year old Benz and it was a taxi.
The people at our resort and around town all seemed very friendly, but I always felt like I was being eyed for a mugging. I got drunk one night and was wandering around and nothing happened though.
We stayed at the Beaches. It was a very nice resort. The property and our room were both very nice. The beach was beautiful. Lots of watersports activities, but the ocean was rough most days and they wouldn't let us snorkel or use the watercraft. The food was pretty good, but the service from the staff kinda sucked. Our maid was great, so she got most of out stuff (clothes, toiletries, etc.). We were one of the youger couples there and I felt that the older guests got better and faster service from the waiters and bartenders. Whatever though. I saved some cash not tipping.
I would got back there again and I reccomend it to anyone, but I think I'd go to a resort that maybe had a younger crowd next time. Oh, our wedding was perfect. Very quick and simple and we were back to vacationing.

Parents are leaving friday to go to cayo coco. I forget the resort name but its owned by the MTL canadians.
