A good friend of mine is giong to Veradero for the same reason in April, I'll let him know you approve. Congrats on tying the knot and all the best in the future!

Your room looked sick, too.

oh man... you just gotta know how to deal with cubans.

the first thing you have to realize is they are paid ****... so they don't care too much.. they do everything slow... relaxed.... they're not about fast paced action like we are in north america.

they are poor.. comparing their standards of living to canada is pretty ridiculous man.. you were in a zone specifically made for tourists... i've seen havana.. and the living conditions there seem better than places in Philidelphia and a lot of New York State that I have seen. They are a poor people though... in addition to having a facist communist government, there are trade embargos from the US.. so their imports are limited. They can't get everything like Mexico can for example.

They're good people though. Waaaay nicer than locals in Mexico. When visiting another country, I always like to meet the locals.. see their culture... not the resort culture... it's an interesting experience... and it also makes you realize how much better you have it, which has been highly dependany on being born in Canada (or immigrated I guess)

I've been to cuba three times, and I'm going again. It is kind of boring in terms of night life... so you have to supply your own idiots to party with.

Congratulations!! May you live happily ever after. I am leaving for Dominican next week. I am just hoping we don't get sick. We should have picked Cuba instead, but we didn't realize about the shiat going on in the Dominican until after we had already booked it.

Alicat, just don't eat fresh fruits and vegetables, stay away from the sugar/sweets tables at the buffets, and don't use even ice cubes in your drink.

I would recommend not even brushing your teeth with tap water. Okay for showering.

bring plenty of insect reppellent and see if it's still early enough to get a shot for malaria

That's why Cuba was so nice. I didn't have to follow any of those suggestions. All the food was pretty good, there were absolutely no bugs and we got 2 giant bottles of water in our room everyday.

Thanks for all of the support. If anyone is planning on getting married and doesn't want to spend $15,000, this is the way to do it.

I'm already looking at prices to go back to Varadero in the summer.

Thanks for the recommendations Bruce. I do have lots of bug repellent packed already and I know we get our mini-bar stocked daily with water. I am going to save one bottle just for tooth brushing. I never thought about the fruit & sweets and stuff but that makes sense. I have lots of imodium, pepto bismol etc. just in case. I have also packed a huge thing of Purell in case we touch something questionable.

Oh well, I just want to have a good time, I don't want to spend the whole trip worrying about every little thing. I will just keep my fingers crossed. I can't wait. I leave in 8 more days.

sugar and bacteria mix very well... fruits and vegetables must be washed well.. not for your diaherea, but for hepititus.

in mexico this is a problem, probably the dominican as well. field workers don't have toilets in the middle of the fields.... guess where they do their business.
