Beware of Computer Product Rebate Scams

I bought 3 items from this computer shop and could not get the rebates. Two LCD monitors were bought with $30 rebate (Samsung LCD Monitor) and $50 rebate (BenQ 15" LCD Monitor) as advertised on their website and their shops during their Boxing Week sales, 2004. An SMC Wireless card, which was advertised to have $20 rebate, was bought about one year ago.

The rebate center rejected the rebates:

Reason for rejecting the 15" monitor: No bar code.
When I bought the LCD monitor, the box did not come with a bar code, there was only one product code. I sent in the product code, a copy of the receipt and the rebate form.

Reason for rejecting the 17" monitor: No PC were bought with the LCD monitor. There were no such requirement when buying on Boxing Day, 2004. I sent in the rebate form, the bar code and a copy of the receipt.

Reason for rejecting the SMC Wireless Card rebate: the bar code was not within the scope of rebate range.

I bought 3 rebate items from this shop and none were honoured by the rebate centre.

If you need the name of the shop to avoid scams, PM me.

that's why you never buy anything offering a rebate..
it's always been a scam..
it's not handled by the manufacturer but by another company all together..
they make their money by trying to convince you you're not allowed one or by ignoring you all together...oh, they get paid up front so

rebate scams

One thing to remember is alot of these places are not authorized dealers. Therefore the manufacturers warrenty + rebate are not often respected by the manufacturer. If there is no original box or container be aware that a bar code usually on the outside package is needed. Also there is uaually a expiration date for which the rebate is time length for. As well , those little stores when you ask if theres a warrenty with the product and they say NO STORE but MANUFACTUER warrenty. Go somewhere else.
just a heads up to everyone whom has problems like this before

Any other victims here, except me of course?

If this is a general rebate practice here in Ontario, why is it not dealt with these fruads?

Rebates are always a hassle. What computer store is it? Im sure people wouldn't mind you posting up the name of the store.

BB or FS has a 100% rebate money collection. This shop in GTA has at least 3 shops (one in Pacific Mall, one in Toronto and one in Mississauga) with a website started as Canada Comp.... You can see they update their website almost every day on prices. All rebates on the website are scams. No small prints nor any indications of other requirements on rebates.

Beware!

I did not look close enough on Boxing Day as the box has got a product bar code which the rebate centre consider as not a rebate bar code.

I read extremely careful with rebates. 3 items did not get rebate from this shop and never had a non payment rebate from BB or FS or any other computer shops so far.

Anyway, good luck for those who buy products from this shop.
You have been warned!

Me too! I don't have any problem with Best Buy or some other small computer shops. This one with at least 3 shops in the GTA areas, if you go... good luck!

I've never had a problem with anytung from Canada Computers. Matter of fact, I got decent pricing on a silverstone case from them..

For those who still interested to follow up.

I received a call from the Offical after over a month of waiting. At 1st she seemed reluctance to handle the case and ask me to refer the case to Federal level. When I told her that I would need the contacts of the Federal Officials and I have all the correspondences with the rebate centre, invoices and copies of rebate forms, she suddenly changed her attitude and decided to help. I faxed her everything last night. Hopefully, I can get my rebates back soon.

So TCC users, don't give up if you don't get your rebate. Follow my previous and lodge your complaints until you get your rebates.
