what are you afraid of?

they're some company working for the RCMP and FBI?

That out of thousands of users they're going to focus on what you use their service for and rat you out to the powwwlice?

gimme a break

anyways, if anyone is having connection issues with speed or disconnects, check out the forums

there are tips on how to fix it

Well because his issue was an ethical one, I don't imagine that his big concern is with the police.

I wouldn't do something like this for security reasons...

I don't give a **** about the FBI or RCMP.

I do my banking online. I purchase online.

You're essentially tunnelling through them to get to where you want.

This isn't new technology. We did this at my last work 4 years ago to see if it would get us through the company firewall. We set the server up at my friend's house to tunnel through.

It's essentially the same thing as XBOX connect.

You are going through someone and you are letting them know exactly what you are doing.

sorry

did you not understand my previous post that said "you don't have to do any of that stuff while connected"

as in

only use the VPN tunnel when you need to download something from a bit torrent?

noones telling you to stay connected 24/7

Exactly.. I don't see the problem with this. I would only use it for downloads off of news servers or Torrents. If your worried about a company knowing exactly what your doing on the net then you should be concerned that your ISP already knows exactly what sites your visiting (Or atleast they can check)

all you're doing is adding another point of faulty security to your connection.

Unless the install for this is open source, how do you know what is actually being installed on your PC?

Are you implying that they may have some sort of backdoor in the program or something?

Because you do realize that you aren't installing ANYTHING on your PC to begin with, right?

All you're doing is creating a VPN connection to vpn.secureix.com by going to control panel > network connections > make new connection.

There is no software involved.

If Rogers already knows that I use Bit torrents what do I care if these SecureIX people do too.

Is there an actual install? From what I've read its simple adding a VPN connection to your computer through windows and connecting to that VPN... No software involved.

I see your point though Bruce. There is really no reason to trust this company. Even though it prevents your ISP from seeing what your doing, then they obviously can. I wouldn't be so foolish as to think I could download as much pirated software as I wanted just because I am using this VPN. Nothing is stopping them from passing on this information to authorities.

it's only required for bit torrents because of throttled bandwidth

you dont need to use it for any regular downloading

I personally don't use Bit Torrents much either way but if I did theres no way I'd sit there and let it run at 5k/sec.
