Boo... only got <$900 and I want a car in NOV/03!

Geeze where did all my work money go in the summer

I got $900 and I want a car when I get my G2 which is 8 months after G1 in March 29 / 03 with Driving Course.

So that means I got roughly 11 months of allowence that means 44 weeks that means $40 a week (if rate is constant) which results in $1760 without summer job (that is if I get one) so total hopefully I would have 2660+ to buy a car. Now just dreaming, what kind of car I could get with 3K, probably a civic but what gen. Currently appearance I want is clean, and performance is decent so its even out.

I say 4th gen at most. If I were you I would save up somemore for a 5th gen. Will you be paying insurance? If so good luck.

You could probably get a 5th Gen HB ( 92-93 ) in fair condition, flaws could be either rust, a bad paint job, or some kind of mechanical default.

A little TLC in the future when you build up some of that cash stack would definately be needed.....

You should get a car that you know you want, from the begining, in decent enough shape till you can restore it, make sure you are awar of everything done to the car and that you will enjoy being with it and not hating because you bought a lemon.

your still young, and have alot of time left before you start needing a car. Money is needing for maintaining the car, unforseen breakdowns, insurance (which would atleast cost you 200-500 per month), and these god dam high prices of gas thesedays

don't bother getting one unless you're prepared to work alot during the school year, cuz having a car is a damn expensive thing to do.... your insurance will probably be closer to 500/month if you're 1st driver cuz you have NO experience and you're just freshly lisenced, and with the money you're looking at buying a car with you're looking at some car that has some sort of problem somehwere, maybe minor or it might be serious..... but i agree with 1sLOCIviC, make sure you get a car that you want, don't get a car just for the sake of having one and then end up 5 months down the road broke as heck and hating your car, if you really love your car you don't even mind being broke every once in a while because you know you still have your baby...... it's all about priorities..... personally i'd wait a few years atleast until i had more money or until i needed it more, there's nothing like the carefree life in highschool not having to work so many hours to be able to pay bills...... etc.... make sure you think it through, but whatever you do make sure you'll be happy!

Yea im with Silver SiG your better off saving more up then buying a car, insurance is a killer, but if your driving a car you only paid like 2-3k for I wouldnt bother with anything but 1 way coverage so your insurance is a lil less. My friend got a 5th gen with poorly done body kit and badly done interior for 3200 so you could always get a beat up 5th gen and fix it yourself like my friend did.

You don't NEED a car......you WANT a car........until you realize this......save your cash.

Unless you have to drive an hour or more to work.....you don't need a car....

A car is a convinience.

Remember.....your car should work for you.....not the other way around.

I finally got my DL when I turned 20(a while back).......until then, I didn't need it......took the bus.....rode a bike......bummed lifts off my friends that got cars/ins. from their parents......ect....

Also.....the insurance will kill you.

I bought my own car when I was 17.
I had a software company and a web hosting company, sold the software company for $20,000 US and used some of it to buy the car. The car gives me a lot of freedom, but as PULVOR said, it is not a need. I realize it after I have gotten the car. Before I got the car, I was saying to myself, hey man, everyone has one, i must need one, but you do not need it, you want it. I also pay for my own insurance and gas, very expensive too ^^ you also need to worry about university tuition fee etc. ^^ just my opinions!!

i wish i was you..... ah well it's true i park my car for the school year and as much as i miss it i like the extra 430 a month even more! don't get yourself into something that you can't get yourself out of, having to work to pay bills is a stress you don't need, i need a car for work and stuff otherwise trust, i wouldn't have one until i finished uni, i could afford to go away to rez or something like that but i needed a car..... make sure you think ahead! plus if you don't have a car you can never be picked to be DD!! just a thought!!

Man, I bought my first car when I was 15, I couldn't even drive, but I was hooked. Well, I couldn't drive legally. I had a 84 Accord in 96...I paid $125 for it, but it was in crap shape. I used it to haul some construction waste for my parents, and I sold it for $100. Then, I got a pizza delivery car for free...that one was towed. Then I had a 85 Nissan 300ZX turbo, 85 Audi 5000CD, 86 VW Jetta, 85 Ford Crown Vic, 88 Pontiac Grand Am turbo, 86 Olds Calais, 89 Chrysler Daytona, and there is one more I'm missing....all before I turned 18. I currently have a 1998 Civic LX, 1993 Saturn SL2 and 1985 Suzuki Samurai and I just turned 22. If you get creative with your finances and insurance, you can pull it off. Save for the Civic I have, I've never paid over $1000 for any of the other cars, and two of them were free...the Grand Am and the 1982 Plymouth Volaire (the pizza delivery car). My bro's first car was free too....in 1996 he got a 1982 Civic 1500S for free...we did the body work on it, did a battery and clutch, redid the interior, and the little thing went to an amazing 300K kms. The Accord I had was over 450K kms. Honda...best cars around, but they both rusted themselves into an early grave.

For $3000, get a southern car...stock. Just take a family vacation in January of 2004 to Texas/Nevada/Arizona/Cali or something, and drive back a nice rust free 4th gen Civic Si.

If you're looking for a 4th Gen all I have to say is good luck on the body...
But like everyones says, keep saving and wait. I regret not doing that. Even though I love my CRX...

I agree with you guys. I'm almost 19, just got my ride and it's rediculous. I don't love my ride, but it's a car, so that makes me happy. I got the car for a good deal, but honestly, the costs of this and that, taxes, plates, 2st and last months etc etc, is almost as much as I paid for the car itself hehe. We'll see how things go, but allready owning a car in my name is getting to be a strain on the walled and my sanity hehe.

if you are getting something i say save up until you see a cheap 4th gen, with no rust. if it does not have an engine then you can alwayz do the ZC. just buy the shell and park it until you have money to buy the rest of the parts.
