Building a Go-Kart
Asking for a friend.
He's got an 8 Year old son who's obsessed with Go-Karts and he'd like to "BUILD" one with his son as a christmas gift.
Does anyone where he can find information on doing something like this? or if there's kits available or wahtever.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't build a kart, buy one..4 stroke is a great entry level for racing.

and no one races 250cc shifters..they're 125cc shifter with 6 speed boxes. there are many different types of kart classes, you just have to pick the right one for you.
Call First Kart and ask for Trevor or Tony.

Basically he bought a gasoline powered power washer from CT for $300 (I think it was $150 off), and he used the engine from that, just removed the pump.
He bought wheels, steering wheel, centrifigal clutch, and discbrake from some place I think it was called Princess Auto.
He bought long, strong pipes to use as axels from Home Depot, and mounts for them to attach to the frame also from Home Depot.
And he was going to weld his own frame but his dad's friend ended up doing it, and was really inefficient. It took him over two months to weld the frame because he put it off all the time, then when he finally got the frame my friend was in univeristy already so he had no time to put it all together.
He still needs a drive belt and a steering wheel mechanism and needs to mount the engine, axels and wheels together and hook up the brake system and drive belt. Right now his total is around $500, but if he had to pay for the frame it would be atleast $300 more.

Just buy one - for 1000 bucks thats pretty close to used price.. Ask me about any details.. I used to race gokarts all over north america, and worked in a kart shop assembling and setting up customers karts..
Me before when i raced..
Me now..
I would suggest you buy a 4 stroke kart with a 5hp honda.. or you can go with a kiddie kart that uses a small 2 cycle comer engine. (and the kart is drastically smaller)
