buying an American car... help..

I'm looking to get this car orginally from the states and need some help. basically this car was stolen in canada and now has been recovered by the theft and recovery centre here in canada. the original owner's insurance company has already paid off the owner of the car. so now this dealer has bought this car from the theft and recovery centre and now is selling it back. I was wondering what do i need to look for and how would i do a trace back to this vehicle to make sure everything is legit? I'm assuming going to CAA to get a Used Vehicle Information Package wouldnt do b/c it's an american car? Or which site or where can I go to, to getr complete info of the car? any input would be great. i'm going to see the car on Tuesday so if I can get as much info as possibly, I know what to look for

thanks

to check if it's legit just go to the ministry of transport office and check the vin #. as for the history of the car... who cares it's a wreck? but try carfax if you really wanna know.

The UVIP is only useful if the car has been registered in Ontario before. So if it indeed had a history in Ontario..it'll only tell you if the car has any leins, previous and current owner's names, and the book value of the car provided it's less than 10 model years old.

Then again, if and when you do get it...it'll be a Rebuilt/Salvage title since it's a theft recovery so it doesn't really matter. The title will not be clean.

As for Carfax.....it doesn't always have full details of the car. Sometimes there are chunks of info/dates/mileage readings missing. It all depends on whether Carfax the company was able gather full history details of the vehicle in question or not.
