Question buying camera from states..a lil question

ok people im about to purchase a canon s400 for about $400ish usd after shipping price... it is from united states down in nyc

ok, obviously if im using a big shipping company like fedex, or ups, i will be charged brokerage fee. So I will probably go with USPS if I can,

and I Want to know if I will be taxed? My dad told me they will convert the price to canadian, and tax me 15 percent on it? Of course if they do it is still around $570ish after tax which is better than $650 + TAX,

anyways thanks, the lowest i found the camera for was $385 from a company with good ratings.

Uh, you do know that almost all the shops that sell audio and video equipment in the NY area, are Grey Market item stores, right? That means refurbished, or B Stock items.

Did I also forget to mention that most don't even have a full waranty, like a new Canadian bought item would?

I have plenty of friends that live in NYC, and they told me never to by anything from there. The guys that run those stores, seem to think it's funny to pull out the batteries, adators, or memory cards, and then sell then as an "option", when they should of been sold with the item. (seen it happen more than once, so watch out). Also see if they actually have a store, or if they are just online.

Now if you live in NYC, then I don't see a problem, because you can always go to the store to get it fixed if something does goes wrong. What are you going to do if something fuqks up? Are you going to pay to ship it back? How long do you think you will have to wait to get it fixed? (that's if they fix it)

That $70 savings doesn't look as good as it did before....now does it?

And those ratings can't be trusted sometimes.....they are fake in some cases.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

your right, new york probably not a great place to buy from

do you happen to know any sites that are reliable for an american price. If staples had the s400 I would be able to pay enuf with coupons, but since futureshop decided to screw me over on their new warrenty policy i lost some cash

but it is more than $70 savings heh, its actually $167

cuz 650 + tax..

Then you should of bought one durring Boxing Day. A friend supposedly picked up his s400 (with a free 64m card and camera case), for $600 tax in. Don't ask me where, because I didn't bother asking. (he was starting to brag again, so I just zoned him out)

Gee, look what I found in a few minutes.

$609 Canadian +tx.

Imagine how cheap I might be able to find it, if I took the time to really look for a deal.

Beat me to it.

Just because they are in Pac Mall (2 locations that I know of in there), doesn't mean they sell grey market.

Do you know why they have good prices? it's because they sell alot of stuff, and they get good deals on the stock they get.

I'm sure they sell grey market items as well, but why they would risk the problems associated with it, would make me wonder.

Blade, you want a GOOD deal on a digi cam? Get a part time job at Best Buy.

Well I picked up a great camera on boxing day through 2001 audio video, and I was able to bargin it down to a better price to.

Check out 2001 audio video, and henrys for sure

BTW PULOVR, I agree with what you said about Canada Computers. I find their prices come sometimes in direct competition with tiger driect But I have purchased lots of stuff from them, problem free for the past two years

If it's a well know company that has an actually store you can go to....like Canada Computers, Best Buy, Future Shop...ect.....then go for it.

IMO, I wouldn't trust ANY website that didn't have a real store as well.

No you wouldn't been there done that .. worked in computer sales then got bored and moved to computer technician... the only job I can imagine being worse is working at Mcdonalds... the kicker is the discounts are rarely better than normal price..

The only thing that you could save money on was car audio stuff... that was like 1/2 price almost... home theatre u might if you were lucky save taxes... everythign else was normally cheaper to buy it at normal price
