Buying from EBay...

Has anyone ever bought anything from EBay from someone in the states?? Is there a huge fee to bring it across through customs to Canada? What has your experiences been?

I pretty much want to know what teh hidden costs are to ship it to me... as well as what if what I get is not as advertised, ie: cracked taillights. I'm I protected in anyway if I do not like the product?

my bro in-law always picks stuff up from ebay....all of his transactions have been good but he's heard of horror stories.
they usually want you to pay for the shipping and handling and the currency conversion is taken care of by your credit card (visa, MC, etc...)....before you buy just make sure they have a good record/opinions

as for warranties...you have to ask them yourself cuz some vendors offer and some dont. and it dont have to go thru customs

Depending on who you're dealing with. And also shipping costs and stuff varies, it depends on the product you're buying. Most eBay users are significant and won't screw you over, they know what they're doing. Just be sure to ask all the questions you have thru e-mail before bidding.

Hope that helps.

Nothing wrong with buying from ebay!
1. Check there feedback to make sure they are trustworthy
2. Pay through paypal with a credit card so you are protected against fraud. (happened to me, about $800 and it was all credited back to me from Visa) That was for satelite purchases. There were a lot of scams for satelite **** a couple of years ago.

I personally buy from the U.S. because some of the stuff is way cheaper! 90% of the stuff on my car has been bought through the U.S.

If buying from the U.S. here is what you do:

1. Have the person send the package as a "gift" and put a lower value on the content ($30) You will only pay duty and taxes on this amount. Only sometimes they will nail you for duty and taxes! Only problem is you are only insured for that amount. So if the package is lost or stolen......your S.O.L.

2. Use United States Postal Service (USPS) Other shipping companies charge brokerage fees.

3. Have the person wrap the package well, to protect and conceal the contents. AEM, STR etc..... Tell me these aren't popular and someone won't steal them.

4. Declare that the items are "used auto parts" This way no one will know that you STR cam gears are in the package.

5. Cross you fingers and hope that they will be delivered safe and sound! It's a bit of a gamble but I have had good luck so far...... and I've bought a lot of stuff for my car!

Regards!

Reason #5 is why I don't like it. It's a gamble!

I just received an ebay package last night from Japan. I probably saved 60-70% by shopping through eBay

I buy everything off the net or through phone, but from trusted co's. I never buy from ppl that have had negative feedback. If the item is cheap, the fee won't be that much, but generally, all things included, it turns out to be double of the american price. So if you see it for $200, it will be $400 CDN by the time you do the exchange and duties.

And then x50-100% and you probably get the CDN retail for that product...

CDN market sucks!

Exactly HappyB16, that's why I get everything online. Even if I get ripped a little, it's not as bad as getting ripped in Canada.

Duties are 15% of Declared Price (USD -> CDN) + $5 Shipping and Handling. Can be costly...

Oh, used parts...those are cheaper in Canada cuz of supply and demand. Figure on about $300 getting you a pair of 99-00 tails used. The red/clear is a popular option. I paid $200 for just the outter ones from a 1.6 EL for my sedan. But there is nothing like factory tails

When purchasing and selling products on ebay, does the seller receive the money first and then sends the product or does he just send it and receive payments afterwards? One more question, does the buyer pay for shipping and handling or the seller? thx

Usually buyer pays shipping..

Seller recieves money and then ships..

Use PAYPAL..

Less chance of you getting screwed over...

No problem...

Also make sure that the PAYPAL account is verified..

This means someone has used it before succesfully...

And paid there paypal bill..

Just attach your paypal account to a credit card..

Preferably one with a low limit that you only use for online purchases..

I have bought a few things off ebay, some from Canada and some from the U.S. using Paypal. Never had a problem, just be sure to check sellers feedback before buying and if they are in the U.S. have them send it by U.S. Mail and you won't have to pay any taxes/duties (at least I never have).

Sorry, that's not true. USPS packages are still subject to customs fees at the border, unfortunately.

I've paid too much tax on stuff already! :fustrated
