Buying Stuff On eBay

When bringing purchases across the border can I expect to pay duty on everything or just certain things?

Also, what is the duty equal to...15% of the valve?

I want a quick way to calculate if something is worthwhile buying on eBay.

Thanks

if you're going to buy something off ebay....... make sure you read the fine print....... and that you know ALL the prices you're going to pay......... most sellers like shipping with ups........ and there always seems to be a million other hidden fees

If the package is inspected you will pay pst+gst no matter what. If its shipped USPS you will also pay a $5 handling fee. If its shipped UPS or another courier service, the handling (brokerage) fee varies, est. about $40. Then if the item is applicaple to duties you will also be charged that. To find that out, you have to call canada customs, tell them what the product is and where its manufactured. If your looking to avoid this you would need to have the sender mark it warranty replacement, gift, etc...

It works with individuals.

Businesses might not be too interested..

Warranty replacements are also exempt..

yeah, the gift thing actually works as well. I'm also about 60% sure that if the product is declared under $40, there isn't any brokerage fee's.

rice, I've had $30 parts come to my door and end up costing me another $50 in UPS fees.... Value is irrelevant I think, once they gotta fill out the papers, it's costing you $40 minimum regardless.

LVS (low value shipment) is anything under $1600, so regardless of the value, the paperwork is the same... $10 or $1599, the broker has to fill out the paperwork just the same. UPS is charged like $5/transaction (not even) and they charge the client $40.

Well, I've bought and shipped ALOT and declared everything as a gift and I know that works. But when I ordered things from my suppliers in the US they declare under $40 and I've never got charged
