layton has an american look to him, almost like he's george bushes cousin. he just seems to be this strict guy but ig he got power he would totally **** canadians over....harper got lit up lastnight but the post debate questions he had one good point. It was a debate lastnight but everyone else just felt like torching him, when they should have been consentrating more on there platforms they kept on harper with the "why" questions.

Stephen Harper has done more for this country in the few years with a minority government than both the Liberals and the NDP. What needs to happen is Harper needs a majority government to get everything done, no party can accomplish all their promises with out a majority because the opposition always wants to get their hands on the power. The Bloq and hte green party have no chance nor should they because they will just screw up our country. When Gilles Duceppe spoke about our military last night, he refered to them as the "canadian and french soldiers" instead of just the canadian soldiers. We are one country and the french need to understand this. To all people not voting conservative, Harper will win, you are only helping to make it a minority government in which case we will not get anything done and will waste more money having another election in another year or two, why not give him a chance? You did with Dalton Mcguinty and hes an idiot and has lied and done nothing. If after 4 years in office Harper hasnt made you happy then go another direction. This country needs a mojority government to get any and all issues dealt with. As for the economy, Canada relies heavily on the United States and is always going to be affected by what happens there and thus the answer to our economic problems would be to get rid of George Bush. To the military aspect of things, years ago when Mr Trudeau was in power he really messed up the military by introducing a "force reduction plan" we lost about half of our military at that time. Since then, no prime minister in power has done anything to help the military, we lacked eqiupment and the proper tools and training required to protect teh canadian people. Stephen Harper came into power and has changed this dramatically, and has affected people in this entire country whether you realize it or not. He has invested billions to give us new tactical and strategic airlift capabilities, better training, and the other various tools required to better train our soldiers to protect the canadians, assist NATO and the UN, support humanitarian aid, and for peace support missions all over the world. Canada is in more countries than just afghanistan, we are all over europe, south east asia, africa, and south america. If Mr Layton or Mr dion get into power they will probably cancel all the contracts for equipment that we currently have and the worse part of this is everyone will think that they are saving us money and using it for better things buth te reality is those contracts will have to be payed out regardless of whether we get the equipment. So having said all this, make sure you really think hard about who you are voting for before you vote and make sure you dont waste votes by voting for someone who has no chance of winning anyway such as Ms May, and Mr Duceppe.

this is very true, why cant these politicians stop interupting each other and bashing each other and just tell the people what they stand for and what they want to do. I think this may be one of the reasons a lot of people dont vote is because they have listened to this and still have no idea what each one is doing. I think Ms May was the worst because if you noticed when Mr Harper was speaking, she would constantly interupt him with some stupid comment while the other s sat there and listened for the most part. I think Mr Harper was the only person last night who wasnt bashing anyone or interupting anyone at any time. Thats how a politician should behave.

I did watch the English debate last night.

IMO everything that came out of Harper's mouth was a lie. After what he did in the office for the past two years I don't trust the guy with anything. Last night he was dodging all the questions and trying to stir away from giving straight answers.

Dion, you're right, was all over the place, and I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time understanding what the heck it is he's saying. He might be a good leader, but boy does he have a hard time communication in English.

Duceppe didn't make sense at all, and it looked like all he wanted to do was pick a fight with Harper, and have him admit he lied.

I found Elizabeth May surprisingly sharp, and I liked some of the points she made. She did take a few swings at Harper, but they were nicely done and IMO, justified.

Layton was too harsh and too much trying to pick a fight with Harper. Also, I found that when he was looking at the camera and speaking, he was trying to tell us what we want to hear. With him I am afraid that he might have a slightly different agenda once he becomes Prime Minister (if he will become).

Anyone but Harper. It is only until recently that i've actually taken a somewhat devoted interest in politics, perhaps i do so knowing how important it is to pay attention to this election as it affects each and every one of us living in this coutnry. Everyone should watch as many of the candidates speeches on canadian news channels as possible, and further research the candidates however they can to make an educated decision to vote for the candidate who best reps what they feel is the best plan for canada right now. Harper does not have my vote, from what i am being exposed to by the mainstream media, the internet, and the platforms of each candidate as outlined through debates, speeches and their official websites, it is in my opinion that Harper is leading the coutnry into a poor direction, i do not agree with his support of the war in iraq and dont relaly believe in his stance in afghanistan either. Gas prices have been soaring from what i believe to be his choices in investing in capitlist/corporate canada unethecically. He seems like a prime minister for the rich and greedy. I read in earlier comment posted in this thread about the green shift plan costing us more and it being a bad idea...i dont find that to be true...that just seems like the type of answer given by someone who doesnt understand what hte green shift is or the impacts its has had in other parts of the world and i encourage such people to look into its purpose seriously before deciding to vote against it...but anyways...ramble ramble..blah blah...in conlusion im pretty much for any party other than Harper's and the parties that stick out for me right now would be the liberals, NDP, and yes GREEN! I found Elizabeth May to be surprisingly rooted in the debate last night. Is she ready to be prime misister right now? Who knows, but her party definatly deserves real consideration.

Its funny how people judge Dion on his level of English and the fact that he is a French citizen. Im not talking about something specific in this topic, but I've seen it posted on CBC or thestar.com.

How is that even a factor? Really, how can you not understand the guy? If you have been speaking english your whole life, you should be able to put it together. Lets not forget, there are 2 official languages in this country and he speaks both. The French citizenship thing? I never understood this, why does this bother Canadians? Not to quote anyone on this topic I've seen, "you better get rid of your French citizenship if you want to be Prime Minister". Why? How does this threaten people? Why is this a turn off?
