Regardless who you vote, at least go out and vote because if you don't, you have lost your right to voice your opinion about our current society and country.

"My vote won't make a difference" or "what is one vote going to do?" is the most irresponsible answer for a country's citizen.

i really disagree with this notion.

a good percentage of the 42% of people think...

A) It doesn't matter who you vote for, it's always gonna be a few rich people taxing everyone else one way or another and no matter who is in power, it's pretty much going to be the same thing.

B) All the options presented are stupid and none of the candidates are worth supporting.

C) I don't really know enough about the parties and the issues to cast a vote and I'd rather do nothing than vote based on mustache or how they dress.

I am just sick of listening to people who are so imformed about how the government is cheating them, but can't become informed enough to vote.

Sure there is not always a clear choice, but sometimes you need to vote strategically.

I do agree that the system needs some reform. PEI has 4 seats and 110,000 registered voters, or 27,500 people to 1 seat. Meanwhile Toronto Center is one seat and 85,000 voters. Representation by population needs to be addressed more and people see that their vote counts just as much as someone elses.

so how does voting change any of that? did any of the parties address your concern?

I want to see the following...

-Police cruisers record every time a cop turns his lights on, and the cop have to write why he/she turned the flashers on
-transparency of all government transactions/contracts
-stores that profit off of pirated materials (ie half of pacific mall, DVD shops) charged and closed down - personal piracy, and piracy for profit are two very different things
-reasonable speed limits on our roads (400 series)
-reasonable speed enforcement on our roads (50 over charge is too much)
-enforcement of English as the primary sign and communication method of all businesses as according to law
-decriminalization of small amounts of "soft" drugs
-Police be required to take drug tests for all drugs which come with criminal charges
-strict gun laws for Illegally obtained guns, legally obtained guns would be casual
-more money towards health care and education
-no money to anyone on government assistance who does not do drug testing and shows up clean and sober
-government run/subsidized car insurance, or limitations on private insurance profit seeing as how we are required to have it, but they can be charged anything any company wants
-more reasonable environment policies instead of making people who can't afford new cars cheat emissions tests
-zero government funding of religious institutions, and making them like corporations (taxing them for all money that isn't used directly for charity - ie warlock or cleric's salary)

Good list.

Several of those items are in line or close to the Green Party platform.

Some of them are provincial items.

I strongly agree with you on the gun law. Since the provinces wont take this one up, the federal govenment should step in.

I agree with most of Sev's comment/list.

I also believe that voting percentage represents how much Canadians care about their government. If less people care (whether they disagree with the platform or they don't know who to vote for), the government can only react on a certain level.

Higher the percentage, the stronger the opinions of the voters, the better the government will react to requests. That is how I see it (and this has nothing to do whether I get what I wanted at the end of the day or not).

If the voters don't care, why should the government?

the more you do, the more people you **** off.

cretien was so loved because he did nothing.

harper won again, cause really, you don't hear about him doing much, and you don't notice him doing much.

if he had announced everyone would have to wear a pink hat on friday nights to curb violence or spend a night in jail, voter turnout would be much higher.

but if he did that, he also would have lost and we'd all be paying a carbon tax right now.
I got my wife involved for the second time, and now she's got her family involved. I wish more people had voted, even if NDP still lost.

At least it's not a majority!

idiots need to stop voting based on race/sex as well.

i know most older greek people will just about always vote for the greek guy because "guy, he's greek, of course i'm voting for him"

voting against a black guy because he's black is just as stupid as voting for a black guy because he's black.

people don't deserve democracy.
