"do you know how to drive a car with a short shifter?"
they are the same as any other manual car. no offense the way you called him a moron, he was prob thinkin the same of you.

some of them have been doing oil changes for a while, its not that hard. as far as being lowered, most oil changes are done on ramps there not jacks, and even if it were jacks, they will life the body to the side to get the jack under. its when customers go in there freaking about their car that they start not to give a ****. jus let them do their job.

oh and as far as taking your car to the dealer. do u really think you have a professional mechanic doing your oil change? no. its the same as ct. some teen doing co-op or just learning to be a mechanic. real mechanics dont bother with tires and oil changes and are busy fixing other car related problems.

Wrong, real mechanics will take the .3 for a LOF and .4 for the tire rotation. Its the mechanics that think they're too good for the easy stuff that do all of the other jobs on a work order and leave the LOF's and tire jobs. Kind of stupid if you ask me, i mean the car is on the hoist in their bay, why not change the damn oil while your doing the other jobs? I guess they don't want the money, its something i'll never understand i guess.

^ that is right.....a good mechanic does the work himself (or someone he trusts) and is worth his weight in gold to someone with a nice car.

CT, mr lube, or even the dealer dont give a **** because they are just employees.

if the car needs something else done aswell as an oil change or tire rotation then yes theyll do it. but when someone comes in solely for an oil change, the rookies take them not the experienced mechanics.

Thats not true, i've been at shops where the licensed techs will skip over a LOF or rotation even when they've got the car in their bay doing something else to it, leaving it for a lube tech. The real mechanics will do the LOF even though it only pays .3 of an hour. The biatch a$$ techs will put the car back outside because they think they're above doing oil changes.

what the hell are you talking about?

one of the best mechanics i personally know works at the CT in burlington. He makes a ton of money there doing his job in a very good and professional way. And yes, I have seen him do an oil change, even though he specializes in front end and more involved engine work.

Don't bash CT as a whole, I personally never had a bad experince with the, and neither have most of my family and friends.

I personally do all of the work on my car out of pride (just because I can, and I know how to, and I treat my car as my responsiblity), and only go to shops to get things like my AC recharged, and emission testing.

Do your own basic maintenance, and you will never have to run into idiots who get paid minimum wage after school hours to let their shops compete in a market like oil changes.

Great advice. Get a helms/haynes/chilton manual and some basic tools, its a good way to save money, learn about your car, and build the confidence needed to start really messing with things, not to mention the fact that you are doing something good for your car.

What are you talking about? CT may have several younger guys working in the shop.. but so does a few of other private shops around. I've had private shop employee's rip my car around too. It all depends who is working.

I would NEVER recommend taking your car to crappy tire for service.
I've never had any problems with my short shifter, i mean i don't have to put it in first then reverse, sounds like there might be something wrong with your tranny.
I took my car to Penzoil for a 10 minute oil change and the kid who drove my car stalled it twice then grinded the **** out of it and then revved it up to 3 grand and rode the **** out of the clutch. I also told them that i had a honda oil filter that i wanted them to use and that its on the passenger seat (in plain view). I told this to both of the kids that worked on my car, but they still didn't use it!!!
Then they tried to tell me that i had a new civic 1.7L engine in my car?!?!?! Its a b16, they also tried to tell me that it only needed 3.7L of oil. I mean, this is the first oil change that i've ever taken it somewhere, i usually do them myself and know how much oil to use. But it was way too cold and i was just about to 2500 miles since my last so i figured it couldn't hurt.
This is why i do ALL of the work on my car myself....regardless.
andrew, next time its too cold for an oil change, whip it down the highway to Speedy on ontario street in st.kitts and i'll do it for u.

Will do for sure next time. Its kind of funny, i did your DPFI to MPFI swap wiring b/c you were too lazy and you will do my oil changes b/c i'm too cold.
This is what these forums are all about, civic owners helping each other out.

i used to work at CT as one of those lube techs. I had a diploma in automotive training before i went there , after working there for a while i've seen high school kids get hired and **** and i'm wondering "wtf did i need my diploma for" i worked there for almost 2 years and i've seen kids come and go after less than a week. CT just needs to straighten up on their hiring process.

haha.. u had your diploma and you were working there as a lube tech..lol.

I got had a job at CT several years back, only did it because one of my buddies was working there. I figured it would be fun to work there.

I must admit, they did hire a lot of stupid kids as lube techs. I've seen tires burst from over inflating a tire, and trust me that takes a lot of pressure. I prevented a car from flipping, because some kid that worked there didn't know how to setup the arms on the lift properly.

Don't think CT hires all dumb kids. Some of the people are good there. The only thing, the good people usually end up leaving to go somewhere better.

I remember when I worked there. There was me, my buddy, and one other lube tech. We did a full oil change in 5 mins (I'm not joking). I believe the car was a nissan sx 200 or something like that. It was one of those rare nissans that you don't see often. I mean there were 3 guys working on the car but, hey the guy said he was in a rush...lol.

Here's what we did in those 5 mins.

-drive the car on the lift and lift it up
-check tire pressure, topped up the pressure
-inspect underneath the car
-change oil and filter
-filled up the car with oil, and then checked the oil level
- drove car out of shop

Don't say there are not any good people at CT. There are, but not many...lol. I agree there are more stupid lube techs, than good lube techs working at CT. Everywhere you go, you'll find good and bad people.

I've seen many things. Regardless of where you go, your going to find stupid people. I remember one story a co-worker told me. He went to Mr. Lube to get an oil change. He leaves for a coffee, and comes back 45 mins later. I think his bill was fro $50 dollars. He's like WTF?? They change his air filter without his permission, and they're like "okay if you want to remove it we do it". "We will still have to charge you labour to install and remove the air filter though". I was dying when I heard this.

If you don't want to let someone drive you car onto a lift, you can say I want to drive my car in. When I worked at CT, so many people drove their cars in and out. If they say you can't drive your car into the shop, then leave. You always have options.

btw, even without a short shifter, before I go into reverse. I usually go 1st, 2nd then reverse. For some reason, it goes into reverse easier that way, well it does for me at least.

CT in general has a bad rep... thats why people dont go there... canadian tire brings there GM vehicles to us because some (most) of the techs dont know wtf they are doing. One time our dealership was hiring we took a 3rd year apprentise over a Lic. Tech that worked at CT because the dealer dont trust them. i have problems with there parts ppl i always seem to get the wrong parts. i mite have said this b4... they should also have either lic. techs or retired techs behind the parts counter.
