Canon A series or Canon Powershot S3
My mom has a a530.. nice camera but too compact for me.
Now I dont know much about cameras.. what i have learned from all you guys is you need a canon a95 or equivilent and a tripod.. any thoughts on this camera? Would it be a good choice to catch memories of the new baby in my life?
Powershot s3? anyone have experience with one?
Oh and

all u need is any camera and a tripod...s3 is nice if u dont mind the oversized camera with no external flash hotshoe...this camera has basically all the same features of the A series but bigger...then there is the G series powershot that has the external flash hotshoe and the same functions
u arent limited to canon...nikon is just as good if not better
this is what u should really be lookin for for the most versatility
exposure times of 1/4000-15sec
a manual mode
shutter priority mode "P"
automatic is standard
now the higher u get the 15sec can be upped to 30 seconds or infinite (dslr range)
look into the a640 for a smaller camera with a flip out screen and same functions of the the s3
personally the newer S series are handicapped since the model 2 years ago came with the hotshoe...the new ones wouldnt be my choice
I've taken great photos with SD300's and rebel xts and all inbetween...they are all capable but its your preference

Cynikal - A little off topic here, but how capable is one of these camera's in movie modes? What Im trying to say is - would this be able to do double duty for a mini dv style camera as well as still shots?
Also - with buying a s3 can over a a640 can you put fisheye lenses and whatnot on a smaller a series camera?
Thanks
Let me know if im not making sense here..
Joe

all the A series have lens adapator capabilities same as the powershot
for double duties...no digital still camera will make a good moving picture camera since they have to use comprimised and/or shared components to do the work
for good videos you're gonna need a video camera DV mini dv hdd or whatever u favour

s3 is nice but look into the canon A710...it looks similar the other a series canons but is actually compact and more stylish. it has 6x optical zoom and a manual mode....basically most of the features that matt mentioned in his post.....
