arguing with the passenger? come on

this is a tried and tested method that works. ppl who don't car pool will be sitting in the other two lanes while the cars with two or more people speed by them. eventually everyone will get tired of waiting and start to car pool, cutting down the amount of cars on the road.

alot of cities do this and it really does help ,i don't know how you can argue with facts.

In Taiwan, there is a lane for bus only (in city driving) and any vehicle other than a bus in that lane is an immediate ticket. That was a way to encourge people use public transportation and also make the buses travel faster.

carpooling is tried and tested, this is a way to force people into doing it...these lanes wont go unused and abuse of the lanes has hefty enough fines and demerit points to sway people away from doing so

and its quite obvious not to carpool with people that dont work the same hours as you...thats only common sense

Ok I could see it working if they actually added a lane and made it a carpooling lane like on the 403. But the 404 is already bumper to bumper during rush hours. Now by taking away one and making it a carpool lane only that cannot help the situation as a whole. And even if people start realizing that the carpool lane is faster its only one lane! Eventually that will get packed too just like the 407 lol Basically this is just a band-aid solution to the real problem, which is we need another North-South Hwy going into the downtown region. Believe it or not in school I was shown a plan from like 40 or so years ago showing the proposed highways that were supposed to be built. An additional 4 I think in total. The government basically bought the land but they never built them. One of course was the ETR but its initial idea was that it was to be free! but what can you do, we just don't have enough tax dollars.

Also I agree obviously car-pooling will increase somewhat to a certain degree. But I am quite sure there are people who just can't find someone to carpool with. Unless we have a website or something devoted to finding ppl to carpool with its just not going to happen. Its simple arithmetic. I work in a small office from a small town, what are the chances someone from my office lives where I do? Doubtful. I am sure there are lots of people from my town who work around where I do, but how would I know? am I going to go around and ask everyone....

lol they help a ton.

especially through los angeles.

its a seperate lane, and for the most part you must stay in there, you are only allowed to enter and exit the carpool lane at special spots.

You guys gotta remember that there are people aready carpooling on the 404. Not everyone on that highway is driving alone. So, as they are taking away a normal lane, it's not gonna be completely empty. People already driving in together will benifit and hopefully more will follow. The more that do it, the less cars on the road = less traffic.

Stop saying the fast line, there's no such thing. It's called a passing lane to (theoretically) pass people going under the speed limit, and then you return to the middle, or far right lane (which rarely happens anyhow).

As mentionned, the method works, in more than one area and country. It's not the fact that we're just thinking of it now, it's not it just never got implemented.

And the only points made about this being a bad thing are so detailed that they should be inadmissable. This law is a good move and it'll improve traffic, in many aspects.

in phillipines, ministry of transportation uses some sort of odd/even scheme code(whatever the name was). it basically in effect from monday to friday only. Monday: cars that has their last license number matches #1 & 2 are allowed to drive. Tuesday: only 3 & 4. Wednesday: 5 & 6. Thursday: 7 & 8. Friday: 9 & 0. Saturday and Sunday are the most busiest and worst because all cars are allowed in the roads.

if u get caught driving in the day ur not allowed - u'll get a huge ticket

so this new lane is like a walk in the park to me

this must be the most dumbest thread ever.

They specifically made a new lane for carpooling.
they didnt use an existing one. so dont FUKKING COMPLAIN.
you dont want to carpool then use the FUKKING normal lanes.
this lane was made specifically for it so your not loosing anythign if you dont want to carpool.
You want the carpool lane to be on the right side? you moron how the **** are people going to merge into traffic and exit on and off ramp's???

Its tried and tested. Why did they introduce it now? its because now they have money and now its been tried and tested. if they did it in the 1990's then it would still be a heavy debate.

Do you know what carpooling means? it means commuting with others to a certain place either of the general area or to the same area at the same time or at a set up time. It does not mean oh gather all the strangers you can and drive with them.

I dont even know why this is a topic. I think what you and green goblin are forgetting is that driving is a privalage not a right. you dont wanna obey rules and regulations and law's? go to the ministry and hand over your licence.

Oh and the other stupid question you had about what will cops do during rush hour if alot of people are using it why they are by themselves? Well think about it? at first they will enforce it by administering tickets and points to random people using the carpool lane then with all the money they made off by those idiots using it they will either get more police officers or devices that can track your *** down. Or if they wanna be a real bitch they will just slow down traffic really badly so everyone will suffer and then people that didnt do anything wrong will ****ing kick your *** next time they see your *** on the carpool lane so they dont have to be stuck in traffic.
