According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Texas, and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

While updating their coverage of the Benoit family tragedy, the <i>Atlanta-Journal Constitution</i> has posted a report that Nancy Benoit filed for divorce and an order of protection from Chris Benoit in May 2003.
Nancy Benoit alleged in the divorce petition that Chris, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture and furnishings. Petitioner is in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."
This prompted the judge to issue a restraining order on Chris Benoit from entering their family home. In August 2003, his wife Nancy requested that the petition be dismissed. The couple later reconciled and celebrated Benoit’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship win at WrestleMania 20 in the ring together.

All of us upset at this are upset because it's a loss to the wrestling industry. It initially had nothing to do with all the murder information being thrown around presently. Damn.

who says they have no intelligence? who says they are actually beating each other down?
its fake, it still hurts a lot and takes a lot of skill to pull half that **** off.
they aren't really beating each other down.
and how do you know they have no intelligence? they make a lot of money and lots of them span out and do things other than just wresting.

There's a lot of stories going around about what happened but the autopsy should sort it out, there the murder suicide, the hanging, but from what I heard Benoit didnt make it to sundays event because there was a family emergency and apparently his wife and son were coughing out blood, plus the fact that at sundays ppv event he was going to be crowned the new ecw champion, but we will have to see what the autopsy report says.

wrestlingobserver.com reports he strangled his wife with an electrical chord and suffocated his son with a bag.
What a tragic waste, despite all his accomplishments, this is what he will be remembered for.

And for someone who has strangled his wife and suffocated his son doesn't deserve to RIP.

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son this weekend before hanging himself Monday in the weight room of his Georgia home, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press.
Benoit, his wife and 7-year-old son were found dead Monday afternoon, and police later ruled the deaths a murder-suicide.
Authorities refused to confirm the murder-suicide until evidence was examined by the state crime lab. Preliminary autopsy results are nearly complete and will be announced at a 3 p.m. press conference this afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Fayette County District Attorney's office.
Additional toxicology reports, which could determine whether Benoit was using steroids at the time of his death, are expected to take at least two weeks.
WAGA-TV initially reported that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, before killing himself Monday. The bodies were found in three different rooms.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that the organization asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."
The WWE also announced that Benoit failed to appear at a Saturday live event in Beaumont, Texas, as well as the WWE's "Vengeance" event in Houston Sunday night, an absence attributed to a "family emergency."
Authorities responding to the scene had a difficult time entering the Fayetteville home, WWE announced, because a pair of German Shepherds were left roaming on the property.
The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.
The WWE also reported that it was in possession of further information regarding the police investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff's Department has requested that the pro wrestling organization not release additional details at this time.
Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told The Associated Press the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m. Monday but refused to provide details about the crime scene.
Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the details of the incident may "prove a little bizarre" to the public when released. A press conference is expected at some point in the afternoon.
The Journal-Constitution also reported that Benoit and his wife went through a difficult period after their marriage in 2000. Nancy Benoit petitioned for protection against domestic abuse as part of a 2003 divorce filing -- describing her husband as a "threat." In May 2003, a judge granted a restraining order, but both were dismissed upon Nancy Benoit's request three months later.
Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.
"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the wrestling organization said in a statement on its Web site.
The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

To be in a business that continually has fans coming back does not seem stupid to me. The fact they do it and it's somewhat fake makes it all the more intelligent imo. Everyone has their own perspecitve on the WWE, but bottom line, the enterprise makes lots of money and the recepients or the "dummys" are rich from it.
On another note, lets take the UFC. People say its better because it is a craft. I won't argue that, they are highly trained in their art, but, at the same time, the promoters and PPV are making a killing. The fighter's aren't even close to getting what the WWE wrestlers are being paid.
So who is stupid?
As for Benoit, I do not know him personally, but for someone to take another person's life, then his own is a coward.

Except for one thing.. Some fighters are being paid a lot more that what WWE Wrestlers are.
For example, Frank Shamrock was paid 1.3 Mil for his fight against Baroni plus bonuses. That was for one fight... a lot of WWE wrestlers do not make that all year.

UFC fights are also a little bit more abusive on the body because its real. Whereas WWE is mostly fake therefore then can do it more often. So Shamrock will only have a total yearly earnings of a couple mil which is extremely high for a UFC fight and a WWE fight on average makes way more than a mil a season.
Back on Topic... the crippler was amazing and now hes a piece of **** and doesn't deserve to be burried in the ground he once walked on. He did great things but its all overshawdowed by this cowardly act that put a period on his life.
