Thumbs down city fido update - telus trying to takeover fido

Well city fido is supposed to be starting up within 2 weeks now from what I'm told from someone who works at fido. The Toronto Star reports it is going to be this monday coming.... but of course there is BAD news to all of this especially those who were looking forward to the city fido unlimited plan for 40-45 bux/month....

Well apparently telus is trying a hostile takeover to stop fido from letting this happen in ontario because it was such a hit out in BC. I'm not exactly sure that it will happen but there are confirmed reports that there trying it ...

anyways my strategy will be the DAY that city fido comes out to sign up... if infact telus does take fido over and changes the plan they would most likely have to keep the plan running for the 2 yr's that you sign up for... if they don't they would have to let you leave the contract b/c it wasn't what you signed up for... I'm thinking if fido gets a lot of positive response here in ontario they'd be crazy to let it go without a strong fight... anyway here's the report...

BLah I said so 2 years ago Microcell (owners of the fido name) is going and won't be around in 2 years .,... this is it the end ... Telus and rogers are both competing of the company .... so good bye fido ...!

Telus is trying a Hostile Takeover while rogers is trying a more polite making offers takeover. stock prices for microcell should be through the roof

The thing of it is telus is scared I think... I went and talk to them about plans and Telus said and I quote "sounds like a desperation thing to me" ... to which I thought your switching fido plans for free which would also sound desperate....

The fact of the matter is Fido is the only company that's even looking to steer the canadian cell phone market in the same manner they do in the U.S. There the plans are so big for the same is what they pay for basic phone their cell phone can be there only phone.

I just hope fido doesn't go anywhere... In BC their record for signups in 1 week was 30,000 ppl and the response is still very good out there... Quite honestly I had a Rogers phone which sucked.. my gf had a bell phone which was even worse... and I don't know too much about Telus... But I do know if there is 1 less company it just means that the customers will come last as per usual...

^^the switchin from fido to telus isn't a desperation move, its because in BC fido is doing the switch from telus to fido thing, i know this cause i work for telus, fido's reception is pretty crappy, so flock to the unlimited calling

Hopefully if fido goes get a chance to release the 45$ for unlimited calling plan, people will switch to fido. With the loss of sales, hopefully rogers, telus and bell will be force to offer similar plans, or even better ones Im just gonna wait it out, to see what happens.

I can only come on when on my lunch break

and yes Fido was doing the plan switch out in BC to telus so telus did it here to fido...

thing is if you analyize it Fido got the better end of that little marketing war because they moved the more profitable telus accounts to them while telus was moving the not so profitable accounts (Fido rate plans) to themselves...

in the end Bell has a plan .... but all I can say is wait and see...

If what fido does to telus is desperate so is that telus and now bell is doing to fido... And I'm really tired of the whole crap reception thing... In cities and on major routes it's just as good as my rogers phone...

The reality is around the outskirts it's not great... but you know what neither is my rogers .. I drop calls all the time and have 1 or 0 bars on my phone on the "non major routes" too so why not save some money in the process...

telus has put in a bid to buy fido for 1.1 billion, so city fido may not fly

I hate telus...they are prolly the worst provider ever and rogers is pretty darn close too...I'm down with bell cuz they have been around the longest and I never have any problems with them unlike rogers or telus

hopefully bell can drop another killer plan like they did last spring and be an even better provider than now...so mr. gatherer I'll be waiting!

ever is the co-relation between the rogers signal area and the fido signal area ... HMMMM what could that mean .. well here's an insiders point of view ... FIDO ROAMS ON ROGERS FOR MOST OF THE MAJOR ROUTES from just east of toronto all the way along the 401 to Montreal fido roams on rogers..

as for the desparation thing.. telus and bell and rogers are all in a relatiively good position financially. the moves they make against Fido are not in desperation but in retation... fido started the battle with telus in Vancouver and took alot of customers from telus. however those losses are just a drop in the bucket for Telus ... seriously Fido took something like 30,000 subs from telus in vancouver .... bell has well over 4 million nationally telus and rogers ess then that but still significant amounts... that 30,000 is just a drop inthe bucket
