We had this discussion at the last meet, Junkyarddude's girl is a nurse at sick kids. Migranes are nothing like headaches. From what she said (I have never had one, but the wife has) your vision gets screwed up, some nausea and other symptoms may occur that you don't get from having just a headache.

IT is totally different, trust me, tell me you've got a headache when you've got an IV in your arm for 8 hours and you cant stop puking, you cant see and you have no control over your speech, or your hands and legs....You brain feels like its going to throb right out of your skull, people have committed suicide because the pain is that bad

Could Your Headache Be a Migraine?
Most people get headaches now and then, but how do you know if it's a migraine? This is a headache in which blood vessels constrict and dilate, releasing inflammatory substances that cause painful pulsations. The mild to severe pain can last from four hours up to a week, two to four times a month. Your headache may be a migraine if you have any combination of these symptoms:
Moderate to severe pain (often described as pounding, throbbing pain) that can affect the whole head, or can shift from one side of the head to the other
Sensitivity to light, noise or odors
Blurred vision
Nausea or vomiting, upset stomach, abdominal pain
Loss of appetite
Sensations of being very warm or cold
Paleness
Fatigue
Dizziness
Fever (rare)
Bright flashing dots or lights, blind spots, wavy or jagged lines (aura)
In many cases, migraines are more severe than headaches, and are often accompanied by visual disturbances or nausea.
Normal headaches will often respond to over-the-counter medications, whereas migraine is often severe enough to require prescription medication.

Well like you said, more than a headache, when you are getting nauseous and having vertigo, I would think thats when its stops being a headache and becomes a migrane. When I have a headache, I usually try to sleep it off, I don't like taking anything for it. Not a fan of medication, but when I see how my wife is when she has one, it's way worse that my worse headache, and hers are mild to what Mandie has.

I assume you get them Sharona? - How do you deal w/ them? Any tips / suggestions / etc? (Assuming you do).

If I do get one, lots of times I get the aura and know what's approaching. So, it's dark room, laying down, quiet as possible, medication... it's the nausea part I hate with a passion.
Comparatively speaking, I'm thankful I don't experience what chronic sufferers go through--dealing with these things once in a while is tolerable, constantly would affect your life--Mandie, I'm sure, can testify to that. =(

So Dr. Terry, when did you get your M.D.? Since you've diagnosed me as not having migraines... It has nothing to do with mind over matter, you've obviously never experienced one or you wouldnt say that. It's not just like "Oh I'll take this pill and lay down for a little". Honestly when youre in that much pain you dont want to have sex, thinking even hurts.

I get the occasional migraine, perhaps a few times during the year, but not debilitating ones frequently, as poor Mandie described (that's dreadful, what you go through Tutti).

Thanks Sha,
Yeah it does affect your life, upsets your job, your spouse, everything around you. You loose out on doing things with people b/c you got a migraine. It really sucks. You feel so helpless, and whats even freaker is that the hospitals dont even know whats going on half the time, I tend to know more about my condition then they do. Your migraines sound like how mine used to be, now light doesnt effect me, only sound. How I wish I could go back to those kind lol Your migraines are like mine though with the aura first, as your indicator that your getting one. Have you tried taking a gravol with your migraine pill?. Thats what the docs suggested to me..
