computer file conversions

Ne one know what a .tar file converts into?

yeah it's a linux archive file ... most likely you won't be able to do anything with it.... but if you want to see whats inside use winzip

that's odd.. i thought it was a linux extension.. but a place on irc has all their games and movies as a .tar

i wonder if i can play the .tar's on my dvd player.. it supports vcd/svcd... ne idea gatherer

tar is just a file compression format like zip or rar so when you decompress the file you should get the files that were stored in that tar file.

The games and such are large files and take a long time to download and upload so thats why they're compressed to make the file smaller, decompress them and you'll get what your looking for, maybe a few read me text files, and a few executables for the games or setup programs.
