if you are having trouble finding system restore, do a search for it, you know that search thing on the start menu..
i know it might be obvious how to do that but maybe not everyone is aware...

System restore??
No. System restore will restore the registry / system files to some specific point (i.e. when the OS was installed assuming no restore points have been created since then). That will not help.
There is no journaling in NTFS; your file is gone.

system restore? wow. can you guys some advice on how to repair brakes to some people I don't like?
abc, it's probably gone unless you had a backup.
You can check your temp files though. Do a search on $, and ~ and look for temp word files. That's the easiest way to check.

happens all the time in industry? maybe if you're surrounded by idiots.
whoever does that at my work and comes to me gets laughed at. Stuff from the day/week/month before I will have backups of if they saved it to the correct place (not on their HDD).
A good practice if you don't have backups is versioning. If you're working on a large document. Everyday, save a version apart from your working file. IE. When you're done for the 'shift' email it to your hotmail and keep it there. if you screw it up the next day, you have an offsite copy that is fairly up to date.

MS Word has an auto-save feature.

If it's really a huge deal there are programs that will/may be able to recover the overwritten cluster gathered that those clusters on the harddrive have not been written to since you saved the file. Meaning sometimes there's a small 'image' of the file left on the harddrive that you may be able to recover with the right software. Depends how much you are willing to spend, if at all. You can get them online for around 50 bucks.
