i format anything at the office i'm giving away with 3 different algorithms which involves 10 formats.

your disk wipes are no match for my electron microscope.

NSA owns all your magnetic media.

i disagree.

I use a combination of things including the following two. It's something that runs overnight.

DoD 5220.22 M
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOD_5220.22-M

Gutmann's algorithim
http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/secure_del.html

I also use a magnet (similair to the one that allegedly gives you better fuel economy) and a magnet scrubber.

it might seem a little overboard, but i made my policy out of satire for client desires and I find it hilarious, so I use it.

deleting files in windows is only a matter of deleting the first letter of the file, this makes it invisible to windows, yet physically still there unless overwritten by other data. restoring is costly. you can get software (i dont know any off the top of my head so youll have to search) that allows you to scan your hard disk sector by secotor for these deleted files and restoring these are a matter of adding the original letter in front of it. its you have done a lot after you deleted this, chances are you overwrote the sector with other data and the file is long gone. have fun.

Man I am suprised you didn't find it in your Temp file. It is usually there especially since you had just over written it. I hope you didn't go looking in your C:\temp folder. You need to go to documents settings\your username\local settings\temp

I bet if you look now it will still be in there. Just organize it by date.

first if you overwrite is and save it FILE IS GONE, ever the so called temp file, which is not in the "temp" folder. the temp file word makes is right in the folder where the orignal file is, but when u save ur work the temp file is gone.

thats why i run a raid1 system on my main server at home and everything get backed up on 350 gig drive. i have done these kinda mistakes in the past, but not any more.

Everyone that replies to this thread is around or in the same ball park as you Bruce Fee, and i dont think anyone is "regurgitate" your facts its just that there is no solution to his problem, and has only one FACT "the situation is over now".

Yes. We all socialize. We're political beings by nature. I have friends. Why do you ask?

We all have a lot of serious issues to address.

- Globalization is making the wealthy wealthier by taking advantage of the impoverished.

- pharmeceutical drug use is seen as an answer instead of prevention.

- the environment is not going to remain stable.

- we are running out of natural resouces for future generations of humankind.

- a world wide war is around the corner. One that most people really are not concerned about much.

- The Canadian government was nowhere nearly as corrupt as it has been, and there are not any signs of improvement.

- The baby boomers will be retiring and the country will not have the funds to help them sustain themselves.

I could go on, but these issues are a good start. We need to start addressing these and doing something about them.

At least if we care about ourselves and eachother.
