Computer problem: HELP please
Alright guys, after that day we had that crazy thunderstorm (I think it was last Thursday) the sound on my computer stopped working.
I've checked all the drivers and there are no conflicts. I'm running Win XP and it all suggests that the sound card is fine.
I've checked my Altec Lansing speakers and subs and when I unplug them from the outlet, I hear the "popping" noise, so I think the speakers are fine too.
I just can't figure out at all what the hell is going on, can someone suggest something that I might try and do please? I'm getting so bored surfing the net without my trance radio!

What kinda jack is on the end (I think it's 2.5mm)?
Try plugging them into a walkman or some other appliance and see if they work.
Or if you have an adaptor that makes it in to a 3.5mm plug (I think) then try hooking them up to your stereo headphones jack.

ur left speaker the one that plugs into the one with the volume control, take that one out and plug it in a walkman or cdplayer or whatever and play if it works then its good
what i can think of is the thunderstorm hit ur wires, then went into ur computer and killed the soundcard

if it had indeed killed my soundcard would the soundcard properties in "My Computer" indicate that it's not functioning properly? Or would it not know the difference?
I've tried plugging in my headphones directly into the jack at the back of the computer where the sound card is and no sound comes out. I'll try plugging in my speaker and sub into a walkman/cdplayer
thanks for the suggestions
if it's my sound card, it's a good thing they're cheap
