The way you describe it is that you have blank CMOS screen before Windows even tries to load. BUT, if Windows tries to load than what I say is completely wrong.
Open up your computer case. Find the battery on the motherboard. Take it out. Find the main jumpers on the motherboard (check manual). Remove. Wait 30 seconds. Put the jumper back in the same spot so you dont mess up settings and put the battery back in and start up and everything should be gravy.

Do what was mentioned above in order to back up your files. Then try this.
Put the XP CD in, boot up and continue with the installation.
Keep continuing until you reach a screen where it says a copy of windows has been detected on the system. Read each screen carefully at this point. You will see an option asking you if you would like to format and start a fresh copy or repair the current version. This basically strips the system of critical files and re-installs them in order for the system to boot and function normally. After this is done, you might just have to re-install some applications, but not all. But at least you will be able to see if you have a last chance to revive the system.
Hope that helps.
