her cardnumber, then her password in the same box but it's not blanked out it's in there with "adssd" that's not her cardnumber or password... but this is happening with her royalbank account and her bank of montreal account, I'm wondering if this is a windows settings...

what the hell are you talking about? did you even read what you wrote before you pressed "send" to make sure it makes sense?

does she have a firewall up?
i dont see how encrypted letters for that specific box would not be working. you might wanna tell her to call the bank's telephone banking line and explain the problem.
also tell her to go to say hotmail.com if she has an account and try login in there and see if it does the same thing if it does it will definately have to do something with her computer settings

i have a suspicion that you may want to seriously consider... i was watching 20/20 the other night....ok ok, my mom was watching it but i happened to be in the room....
i have heard of the possibility that you can (via a virus) get re-directed to a false front webpage, by this i mean something the very closely resembles the actual website....
let's just say that you use royal bank for your online banking, type in the web address on your browser, and you may automatically be redirected to a false front site that phishes for you bank number and password.... similar things have happened with paypal and ebay accounts...
wow, i am surprised i am the first one to mention this possibility
you're girlfriend should stop usning her online banking immdiately, alert your bank, but don't let them put a hold on your account unless you are settled with your current banking situation ie. bill payments...
the best adware detection is a program called ad-aware it's a free download that will recognize these types of mal-wear or other unauthorized redirecting viruses.. you can get the download from download.com it's called ad-aware but there are other types of these programs, i think stop-zilla works too but it is more of a pop-up blocker....update your windows service pack from the microsoft site...i think it is called service pack 2, and it is constantly being revised
make sure your anti-virus definitions are current, learn how to manually update these yourself.... it sounds hard, but it isn't especially if you have norton....
i know of some mal-ware that will insert ads that you would see onto websites, in substitute for the existing ads
i am not an expert, but i do recognize your girlfiend's predicament... you may be able to go as far as to report something like that to the police, they have units set up for busting phishing (ask a nerd if you don't know what phishing means)
i would always use the "boys in blue" as a last resort, you never really can trust them, especially when they give you a ticket for driving 20 over in a 50 zone... ok i am speaking from personal bias
in short (sorry, i know my posting is disjointed), your girlfriend may be getting redirected to a site that is collecting her personal banking information.....in fact i am certain of this....this is really scary....anyone ever read George Orwell's 1984....ok now, you know i am a nerd
I am curious to see if anyone agrees or disagrees with me

...and another thing
one more thing.... take notice of the website that appears at the top of your internet browser after you finish typing in the web address. If it is something other than what should be there, that is a clue
For example
you type. www.scotiabank.com
(and the you hit enter)
you see. www.freewebsite.com/scotiabank_banking
(or something to that affect)

OMG!
nnniiiccckkk007 actually posted something useful instead of the usual random nothingness. And I was going to recommend you for the boot. You just redeemed yourself.
