Does anyone have ADD/ADHD or know someone that does?

the school system forced me and my wife to put my oldest child (now 14) on dexedrine in jk to treat his adhd....we were in our very early 20s and still at that point trusted doctors and went along with it...
it worked well for 5 years then strange stuff began to happen. my son wouldnt eat at all, stopped sleeping more than a few hours, he would hallucinate and have crying spells for no reason. he was depressed, paranoid and scared all the time and hadnt grown in years he was the smallest kid in he class and im 6'5". the doctors said that he was making stuff up but we didnt believe them so we started searching for more info and found that the meds they prescribed were in-fact amphetamines and my son was a major speed head....the drug we were told had no side affects. he has been off them for 3 years and though he is still hyper he at least functions like a normal person.
what am i saying? try alternative medicines or diet because they do work...i dont trust doctors or anything they say cause at the end of the day they get kickback on the drugs they prescribe and dont give 2 ****s about people, only money...just like everyone else.

I have it pretty bad but I enver took medication for it. It has been dianosied by a doctor when I was younger. At the same time I am dyslexic which makes learning and paying attention 10X's harder.
Now I find I get anxious and its very hard to sleep and little things get me excited therefore I am on anxiety medication which helps me sleep and not worry or get over excited about the little things in life.

my buddy used to take adderoll (pretty much ritalin). It used to get him pretty jacked up, he wouldn't eat for a couple of days b/c he said he couldn't, he hardly ever slept and lost like 20 lbs over a 6 month period. He was always kind of paranoid (he is an american though) but it seemed like the drugs made him worse, always complained that he was super thirsty too.

my brother has ADHD... he has what is considered one of the most sever cases of it in Canada. ADHD is actually a real condition but it doesn't effect as much of the population that doctors are claiming by medicating the population.
That said my brother was on Ritalin. He had oneof the highest doses in Canada at 60mg (3 pills) in the morning and a few more at night. it worked great but his body built up an immunity to the effects of ritalin after a period of time and soon it was ineffective.. he's been in multiple different trials and test runs of various experimental drugs ... current he takes nothing .. he was around 4 when he started the drugs and now he's 24 (I think) why does he take nothing? Because he doesn't need to, he's a super happy guy... that was his crime, to be overly happy, when he does take a pill it's like it's loaded in depression and he changes into a quiet guy that doesn't say a word just pays his video games and doesn't do anything else.
I think the medication of our society to be very unjust.
I completely agree with Leitner look at diet and alternative meds... try consulting an naturopath before beginning the strong meds.

Before beginning any form of therapy, whether it's medication or natural measures, be sure to get a proper diagnosis, even if it means consulting several doctors/pediatricians, etc., Do as much research as possible. You'll be better equipped to make informed decisions on treatment.

Drugs should only be used for recreation.
Ritalin has a very similar effect that cocaine has. i popped Ritalin a few times during exam periods in university. it works greats in terms of keeping you alert and being able to concentrate, but it should be the last venue to stuff down anyone's throat for a daily regime.

It was simply a suggestion.

I was considering of seeing a doctor and inquiring if I have ADHD. I am doing fine right now however it the drug can help me concentrate on school, I'd like to try it for my remaining year and a half at school.
Seems like there are a lot of negative experience after a few years of usage but the first few seem great. I would like to know if I can easily stop with the help of gf/parents?

If you think you have ADHD then you probably don't have it.
Try drinking caffiene before studying, or putting in headphones.
this is if your brain is slightly understimulated.
---
you can also try going to the gym for 45 minutes and working out as hard as you can.. or even a 20-30 minute jog... either or both of these two, you should do 4 times a week, and you'll be surprised at the effects.

drugs should never be considered an answer.

I do drink coffee before I study. It takes many hours for me to open the textbook. When I open it, I can study for like two hour tops. That includes the distractions i.e. wandering eyes for a few minutes for no reason.

I used to take 50 mg of Ritalin, or Methylphenidate, daily.
When I stopped I gained 10 pounds.
Do I think I needed it? Hmmmm...no.
I had attentional problems but I think for the most part it was for a lack of enthusiasm for school.
How can a young guy concentrate when the problem is caring about school? Consider that!

I know that its my problem; easily annoyed by any kind of sound.
So, I use ear plugs.
Excercise is great! You might think you are too busy to excercise, but physical activity in your schedule puts your body in balance. You can correct your sleeping pattern. You'll find it evens out restlessness.
Good luck man!
I've never been sure I have ADD, but I don't like putting pills in my body.
