Donating to 3rd world countries

What do you think of all the money donated to third world countries??

I don't know the exact numbers but from what i've heard the majority of the money ends up in the governments pockets to buy guns and ammunition for theyre army.

IMO I think we should look after our own problems in our country before we start handing out money everywhere

maybe i'm wrong

its a touchy subject...Canada should be looking after its own problems first, i doubt the money goes to buy bullets and guns, more like in the governments pockets so they can take vacations to cuba..that sounds more realistic

but then again, those places have it rough...ever seen/read what goes on in the Congo, thats hell.

Dave, I agree with you 100%. I would first help out people here before helping out another country.

What doesn't affect me, doesn't matter.

It's up to people to fix their own community. Not anyone else..

I think the best foreign policy is to not have one.

I depends on the place and the problem IMO.

If there was some huge environmental disaster that happend, it would be nice to see other countires helping out like in the tusnami of last year.

If its just a day to day thing, a little money here and there would be benifical to any third world country. But I agree to a certain extent, that we have to fix our problems first before moving on to other peoples problems.

I think its a gross understatement to say that all the funds sent to these countries are used in "capital flight". For example look at the case of Uganda which has benefitted greatly from external assitance... Yes corruption is rampant in these countries, but it would be unfair to characterize the situation as hopeless/

Furthermore, alot of the industrialized countries helped create the situations that 3rd world countries are facing, unfair terms of trade, low labour wages, a lack of legislation in order to attract mulitnational firms etc etc etc..

anyways this is just my very quick opinion.

no one forces indians to take our credit call complaints for $0.10/hour.

If your situation is bad enough, rise against the power and do something. Why does anyone in this world owe you anything?

We are meant to feed on the weak.

I don't see too many lions diving out the food and making sure everyone in the pride is well fed.

take care of your own problems before you can duly address the problems of others

The simplest example. On the airplane, always strap the oxygen mask on yourself before you help other people.

hey Hot, if you think 'we' should help them, let me ask you, have you done anything to help them? Or do you sit around eating $5 coffees and feeling bad for children starving to death and pretending you care?

On one hand i can see why people would want to better their own cause. Who wouldnt? That as well as helping those that directly impact you, and those that reside in your community.
However, on the other hand, does it really matter wether the unfortunate are in your country or in someone elses? they all need help anyways.

I tend to agree with the people who say we should take care of our own problems first. I work in a poor area of Hamilton and I see a lot of rough little kids. Dirty, hungry, not healthy. I feel bad for therse kids cuz their parents are either welfare cheats and spent all the money on shootin up and booze cuz they are too lazy to get a job. But that is not always the case. some people fall on hard times. Lets take care of those who may one day contribute to society.
I think the Gov'ts foriegn policy is all backwards. They say the are going to contribute $X to African aide, but I feel that it is just a show to the world community, as if to say 'see we are doing good things in the world', when in reality money is going to fund the militia.

sorry, ingest, not eat.

do you mind telling me what little you do? you have no idea what i do, i just don't pretend to care like a lot of other people.

no one is asking me to help, but the government spends a percentage of the protection money i am forced to pay to conduct business on their turf.

I never have and never will donate money towards anything. I work hard for my money and I will do as I please with it without havign anyone making me feel guilty over what I do with it.

I help my friends all the time with no questions asked. If someone needs 20 dollars, i give it to them, dont expect to get it back. If my friends need help doing something, I am always there helping them with no questions asked and nothing expected in return.

Where do i fit in Hot? Am i still a selfish person sitting on my fat *** not giving a damn about the world?

Your comment sounds quite cold hearted. Not something I would expect from a person who donates and helps out the world.

I think we should start donating love to you.
