DSM vs. Vette
#21
The DSM handles as good as a Food Basics shopping cart I've driven many many many cars... and I can honestly say, the Civic is by far the best bang per modified buck in terms of handling performace. A base Civic in 1998 was $15,500 or something... another $2000 in susp mods, and the car handles with the likes of the M3 and Porsche... bullshit you say?? 1.09 Gs on a 200 ft skidpad... take that to the bank, and they'll cash it
As far as performance, outright speed, fun per dollar, etc... it's true, the Talon is hard to beat. It's a far greater FUN PER DOLLAR value, but don't EVER compare the handling of a talon to that of a Civic! NEVER! Like my Saturn handles exceptionally well for what it is, but I don't measure it on the same scale as the Civic, cuz the Civic is untouchable. I just realize that other cars start with a major handicap... shocks that turn with the wheels
To make a Talon respectable, I'd do the following... 1st gen Talon, all stock, change susp to inverted struts - get custom spring rates, not lowered... get big sway bars, swap 2G brakes in (bigger) and use brembo rotors, KVR pads, Goodridge or Earls lines. Use an OEM clutch, that's right OEM... why? It's a fuse to protect the tranny, clutch slips before tranny scatters. Build the motor, use a 16G and 540 or 720 injectors, use FMIC for Spearco. Total tally, in excess of $13K prolly in mods alone. Fun?? >WRX>SRT4>RX8 ... problem is... finding a rust free Talon that old.

BTW G2 Racers, having a weak tranny is a big deal. Say you work for a living. You're out having some fun, tearing up the streets one night, or out auto-x on a Saturday or Sun... how many times did you beat on your Civic, and the thought of a scattered tranny never even crossed your mind. With the DSMs, every time you gas it, you gotta ask youself, is my tranny still good?? And one day you'll just be gassing it... and POOF! the car that gets you to work every morning needs a new tranny. A new tranny isn't like changing a light bulb... stop at Canadian Tire and grab a new one... it's a little more involved, like sourcing a good tranny and then swapping.

and dsm's are way cheaper hp than hondas too....i am picking one up soon as my next "Serious Project car" for myself.
by far the best bang for the buck if you are into boost and traction. dollar for dallar i will smoke any honda in one...and if you doubt this then let me see you get a civic over 400 hp with out having problems for less than 10000cdn dollars in one year with shelf parts.

MartinGouda, you talk a big game... but I have yet to see results. Time slips?? Cuz we can all dream, but it takes cash to play.... you say "next" serious project car, as if there was a previous one, and if so, I'd like to see some pics? Personally, I think the only thing you smoke is crack.
