Yup, if your graphics card doesn't support it, you won't be able to get it working.
Most laptops have the ability to support dual monitors.

Using a splitter will show the same image on both displays. If you want to use both monitors in a extended desktop configuration, using both displays as one larger display you might want to check out Matrox's DualHead2Go, http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/.

dont know what newbread is saying, but all you have to do it

if you card suports dual display (most new cards do) then buy a spliter cable, and in display settings, select your 2nd monitor and check the box extend my display and set it to the same resolution as the 1st monitor.

^monitor on the left would be your primary monitor
monitor on the right would be your extended(secondary) monitor

Are you looking to show the same image on both displays?
Display #1 = Display #2
If yes, a splitter is all you need for a mirror setup.

If your looking to set both displays up in extended desktop, where you can drag a window from Display #1 to Display #2, or see a single window stretch out across both displays, that Matrox product or something similar would be the way to go if looking for an external solution without changing out your existing video card.

dude you dont need to buy any spacial hardware, if the card supports dual display all you need is the splitter cable.

you have been doing it the wrong way and costing your company lots of money.

i have done this 120 times....upgrade at my work

Assuming his existing video card will support dual monitors, sure. But most of todays new video card I've seen supporting dual video will typically have two video ports. What video card do you have zyepher?
