Dvd Players

im in the market to buy a new dvd player .. my dvd-r is fading and is now causeing dvds to stutter audio during playback .. im assuming this is caused from lots of use but im looking to get a standalone dvd player ... dont really need anything extravagant .. just something that will play all video formats and has good connectivity ... any ideas ?

looks good...for the price of a recorder you can't really go wrong...however I don't know how much you'd use it really...guess it depends if you use your VCR to record (I don't, I love my PVR)

I don't think the TIVO works properly in Canada because they don't have connections with the cable companies or something (I might be wrong)

I have the Rogers HD PVR (SA), and its pretty sweet, very easy to use if you already have digital Rogers..

well you don't have to I suppose..., however they integrate the TV guide and the recording, so you can select in the TV guide what you want to record and just hit record...its a lot easier...

I thought about making a "homemade PVR" out of a comptuer and a capture card, but by the time your done it costs the same as buying one, and has no warrentee (and isn't HD)....

I'm not convinced yet who is going to win the current battle between HD-DVD and Blueray...not even looking at anything till that is sorted out (And the prices come down ofcourse)

I know everybody says the PS3 is going to help Blueray but everytime I read something new about the PS3 I keep thinking its going to be a flop COMPARED to the PS2...

The first link you sent... that's where to go.

I was asked by the HR chick if I could show her how to encode wmv to turn into DVD for some videos, i responded by sending her a link to that DVD player.
