The thing about this email that i got is that it looks official!
Ill show you something though..

If you notice the fine print below it says...

It says that they will never ask you to update your personal information, credit cards etc.. so its a dead giveaway thats its a fraud..

Also the return path of this email to me is.. nobody@server2.arterytc2.net -- ebay would never send something like that..

i got something similar, i was selling a winter beater and a guy from the States CALLED me (wierd area code), said hewill pay the price i was asking and he will send someone to canada to pick up the car, the car was just a geo beater. He called with a really crappy phone card cause there was like a 2 second delay. he asked for my bank account # so he could tranfer the funds. What did he hope to get out of this scam, could he really withdrawl anything from my account with just my account numbeR?

Euro_civic, never give your account numbers out to anyone.

paypal is okay... all you need to give him is your account name... and that's it.

all these long winded stories about medical costs and what not are BS.

why is it so attractive to scam from Africa?? I mean, how does this scam work? I don't get it? I mean, I have heard of this scam many many many times, but from what i gather, you get paid? I've also heard of that one where they say they'll send you a cheque for like $5000 or something, and you send them back change plus the item?? I'm confused. I dun see how the scammer gets money out of these scams? I'm not criminally minded.

Same here, i just dont see it.. Onless the money if fake.. Or the cheque bounces.. Thats all i can think of.

U receive cheque, send item.. Cash Cheque it bounces.

All that comes to mind.

I dont think they can do anything with your account number other then deposit money.
I sold a guy my SIR who lives in Alberta and was shipping the car to Sask.(or vise-versa) The guy never even seen the damn car and he still wanted it, i expected it to be a scam, when i talked to some of my bank friends they said go ahead give the account number they cant do anything with it, so i did, the guy sent 16,500 and i withdrew it first (to make sure it wasnt a mistake) and then sent the car
i got an email from the guy later saying the car was mint and that was it
So not everytime it will be a scam, call your bank, talk to them b4 making wierd transactions

Nigeria scams?

They ask for your passport... account number.. they get as much information they can about you... from there... insider help... fake ID.. it's casual.. very easy to take out money. security there isn't like it is here...

there is also western union scams... they use fake IDs i believe..

You know what.....

it was in the Windsor Star the other day, not on the front page but in there...it said somthing like you need to update your ebay and you need to update your credit card and S.I.N #

well, after 2 days the guy started thinking to himself fianlly, "why does ebay need your S.I.N. #"

he then called ebay and there like we didn't send you no e-mail, and this guy gave his credit cards and S.I.N. to that fake e-mail...

now if you do what that guy did, you should be slaped once a day for 5 years
