They're also upset cuz of the new greenbelt laws and the fact that they CAN'T sell their land now to house developers, cuz alot of them wanted to, they'd be rich off that alone and then they could retire, but now they're stuck between not being able to sell their cattle and not being able to sell their farms.

I agree with bbarbulo though, it's not my problem so why shut down the highway? does it affect the government? no. Does it draw awareness? sure it does but if anything it'll make people less sympathetic to their cause if they're being inconvenienced just to send the government a message.

And to those of you that said you'd be right along side them protesting dont' u have a job or anything to do? or protest for your own cause? not every protest is a reasonable one, and if you just hop on the protest bandwagon you're part of exactly what's wrong with canada these days

I'm a little more okay with it if it's creating thousands of jobs. Do we have any idea how many farmers are affected by the Mad Cow beef ban?

Good point, but our government(s) do make a habbit of giving out money to other industries. Just this week the Ontario government gave General Motors a whole bunch of money to create new jobs in Oshawa. Personally I am agaisnt it in principle, but I can understand politically why they do it. Say GM starts doing poorly they lay off a bunch of workers in oshawa, the government gets blamed, tossing money at things is definitly the easy answer that our government loves to take.

Now, personally as much as I don't like the government assisting private industries (like farmers), I think the farming industry is different. Its borderline an essential service in my mind, having good, fresh local crops I think is a great value, and see having it subsidized from the government to help keep prices down.
