you think it'd be a lot cheaper down there? or am I better off going to howadforums.com? I'm kinda wary about buying stuff online though.. like if I had any problems, or warranty issues...

Al:
the "restrictions" to this is only if you have a bad credit rating... that's the only thing.. so there are no restrictions once you get the contract (if you decide on a contract) and activate this plan
hope that helps, cuz I know I'm gonna go with Fido now

i saw the commerical for this fido to fido thing today...
as i recall, i think you only get 2 months of it (fido to fido free talk)... this is what i read in the fine print of the commercial...
i'll keep my eye out for the commercial, just to make sure i didn't read it wrong...
bell used to have this feature, but they discontinued it for some reason...
i can relate on high cell bills, cause i've been averaging over $100/mth because i'm going over my minutes... but just b/c fido has a CHEAPER plan doesn't necessarily mean it's better... you also have to consider how good the reception is..
isn't bigger phone companies have more satellites, which mean better reception?! i'm not sure, just asking cause i heard that somewhere...

well, if it turns out that this offer is only for 2mths, then you might not be better off with fido cause if you went over your minutes then your bill might end up being $50+, just like your current provider...
a few of my friends are with rogers, and it seems they all get money BACK every month... like $10-15 reimbursed... i'm not sure why, but they all do... might want to look into that!?
good luck!

reimbursed? how is that possible? as far as I know, if whoever subscribes to this promotion now, will continue to have free calls with other fido users for as long as you're with fido... I hope you're wrong with that fine print, cuz then I'd pretty much be stuck with Rogers cuz I hate Bell
#47
yeah maybe reimbursed isn't the right word, but they get money back for some reason... i don't think they really know why and are probably scared to ask cause they think rogers will take it away thinking it's an error... but so far, everyone i know on rogers is getting some sort of credit on their account... if you know any rogers subscribers ask them if they have it too...
well, i saw the commercial again and i wasn't wrong about the fine print... sorry to burst your bubble! it says you get 2 months of fido to fido free with your monthly plan... so after the 2 mths, if you still want it then you probs have to pay a monthly fee which means it'll probs all add up (with the service charges and taxes) to be around the same price as what you probs pay now... plus, if a lot of your friends don't have fido, it's not really worth it to have this feature, esp if it's only for a couple of months... cause after that you have to start worrying about if the plan you have is enuff...
so i think you might be better off with rogers... generally, i think rogers and bell has the best plans and service... bell is $$ but i guess it depends on what plan you are looking for... it's better to get unlimited weeknites/ends just b/c you won't have to worry about going over your minutes... 1000 minutes sounds like a lot so you might get carried away thinking you could never use up 1000min, but if you have to start paying cause you went over, you're going to think this plan sucks and regret going with fido... just something you should consider!

actually the 2 months thing means that this promotion is on for another two months.. meaning it will end in two months.. as far as I know once you subscribe to this fido-fido plan, you will ALWAYS have free calls to other fido customers until you leave them
#49
well, i decided to copy down the fine print from the commercial and this is what it read: "2 months free. fido to fido option. limited time offer. certain restrictoins apply (which i assume is the restriction you mentioned b4)"...
so i am assuming that this meant you have 2 mths free of this service ... not that it ends in 2 mths... 2 months free implies you get the service for 2 mths free... i dun think it implies expiry date... cause they already said it's gonna expire soon by saying limited time offer...
do i make sense?! i'm confusing myself... it makes more sense in my head!

I honestly don't think it means that you only get it for 2 months.. that would be so gay.. and from when I was talking to the sales rep on monday I didn't get that impression at all.. I haven't had time to call fido, or to go into a store, but I will once and for all make sure wtf is going on... cuz you're right.. I don't wanna get screwed over.. but at the same time, would really want this plan badly if it is "legit"

to tell you the truth it does sound like promotional bull...
i personally don't think it's really worth it to get the plan just b/c of this promo unless you know a lot of ppl who use fido... then it seems more worth it...
a friend of mine switched to rogers and i think he complained that the bills were too high and that he would pay cheaper at other companies so rogers said they would credit like $10 to the account...
personally, i wouldn't go with a company just b/c of a feature they offer... i think reception and service is more important... costs will seem cheap now but they will add up... when i had a $25 plan i thought it was cheap but then i had to pay for this and that and it almost doubled... dunno if you can really get away with that...
well, find out for sure what the deal is... i think it sounds too good to be true... if it was forever, then everyone would want to switch to fido so everyone can talk to anyone for free right?

I saw the same comercial too.
This is what I found out yesterday.
I went to Scarborough Town Center and stoped by the Telus store near Sears. I aksed the guy what plans they had. The guy asked if I was a Fido subscriber, and I said no.......but then I remebered this thread. I knew that they match the Fido plans option for option, so I asked about the Fido to Fido plan. They said they would.......for 2 months just like Fido plan does.
So there WAS a catch.
So unless this Telus guy had his info wrong, then the Fido to Fido plan is only a promo for 2 months. Oh well, I'll stay with Bell......they have the best reception anyways......(and a friend works there and gets me free replacements antena's when I break mine).

seriously BladeX I dunno where your getting your info from but fido is not the phone to get regardless...
look at it simply... both Bell and Telus have release advertising campaigns that specifically target fido customers.... (I can finially speak of this since I've seen the ad's in public...)
I know bell has multiple exchanges set aside just to absorb fido customers and provide them with the same area code and last four digits.
Fido is an old dog thats going to be put out of it's misery ... see you won't be able to jump ship once it's sunk because the main 3 will know you only have one choice and thats to get another plan with one of them.
also fido roams ....alot.... on a network that will not exist in 7 years (at most) they roam on the..... get ready for this......... Bell Analog network..... I don't think I've ever had a phone on that network unless I forced it to go there instead of CDMA
of course Fido also roams on the Rogers network... (the GSM) both rogers and Bell want to not support this anymore ( the roaming agreements are over) however are being forced to by the cry babies at Fido that went to the CRTC because they don't have a clue how to build a network for their own customers..
fido doesn't have coverage from like cobourg to well past kingston... thats a huge hole if you ask me the 401 is a main corridor and as such a real money maker for cell sites...
seriously with this level of incompetence do you really want to stay on a ship that has tons of holes and is sinking?
also if you think fido will be bought out... think again the main 3 have all looked at doing so and each one has come to the opinion (on there own no colaboration here) that it would be better for them to strip fido of it's customers and let the company sink in it's own pool of mismanagement.
with that said why not jump ship? telus rogers or bell would be happy to have you.... (and with Bell I can get free antenna's for peopel that like to break their's for fun )

I was driving and i heard a commercial on the radio saying if you bring in your fido phone to a Telus place they'll give you a free v60 i or something and you can keep your existing plan..anyone know anything about this?
#58
ok.. to confirm Pullover.. there is NO catch... the 2 month thing is this.. if you are an EXISTING fido customer and you want to ADD fido-fido, THEN you get it 2 months free BUT will have to pay for that service after that... BUT if you're just signing on with Fido to start a NEW account, and want the fido-fido ($25/month 100 weekday, 1000weekend/weeknight) then it's that price LOCKED for as long as you're with Fido... also with Fido you don't have to sign a contract which I like...
