Flat panel monitors
Might be considering to get one.
17" in size but was wondering a couple of things:
1. Is it plug and play?
2. If not what is needed?
3. What's the diff between LCD and TFT? I know what they stand for but which one is better? Saw a monitor that said it was both (specs)
4. Does it use the same cable as a CRT monitor?
5. And the most important question............................
Is it worth it?

it is quite the price jump...I think its worth it if your hurting for desk space...but otherwise Im not gonna buy one untill the price comes down a bit more, LG makes some nice monitors (the normal size ones) that are very close in picture quality, if thats the only reason you want a new monitor... for less than half the price of a flat I should add... thats just my opinion...
as far as i know yes they are plug and play...windows xp has the software drivers...if not the monitor comes with them anyway

it really depends on what you use it for. LCD's (skinny monitors) are really only good if it's for normal use.. doing documents.. surfing the net etc.
If your using it for any type of graphics.. be it for design or for gaming the LCD's are not half as good as a CRT (normal looking monitor)... And now that you can get the CRT monitors flat they look that much better... again it all depends on how you use it

Thanx for the responses guys.
I'll be basically using it for surfing the net (99%), some documentation (albeit very little ), some gaming (not alot), and some video/graphic/photo editing.
Keep'em comin'

you know,
you gotta pick the refresh rate, the brightness and then put the monitors on that range first, better refresh rate = less ghosting, brightness u should know. Once u got all monitors in this range then pick them off 1 by 1.
Also, I dunt know if your videocard supports DVI, but you should get it on the lcd panel. No matter what, once u get a videocard that supports dvi the difference is alot.
LCD means the panel itself, TFT is the screen/display technology.

Checkout www.tomshardware.com They did some reviews recently.
BTW don't matter if your videocard doesn't support DVI you can always get a converter plug. Some of the monitors come with one.
TFT= thin film transistor. Nowadays its hard to find anything else. There used to be other LCD technology before like STN, DSTN.
pros for LCD: no radiation, low energy use, easy to move, takes less desktop space.
cons. expensive, possibility of dead pixels, usually lower refresh rate and one lower resolution than CRT for same size screen. IE. LCD 19" 1280x1024x75hz vs CRT 19" 1600x1200x85hz.
